RE: [OR] Error Thrown When Simply Opening a File
it does for some but not all. It is hard to salvage files once they go bad. Keep good backups.

I'd recommend you use the "AutoCAD" approach.Create a sheet file that contains a (2D or 3D - your choice) design model and a 2D sheet modelAttach any reference files needed to display the detail areas...
View ArticleRE: [OR] Assign Name and/or Feature Style to a Civil Object After the Fact
It does need to be 'civilized' in order to have a name. If you assign a Feature Definition through the General Geometry > Set Feature Definition, it will allow you to assign a name in the command...

I don't know whether Chuck edited his post after you responded, but Chuck did say in his post that his coworker (assumably using the same software at the same versions) can open the file without issue....

I didn't see that. but, in that case, maybe clean out the 8.11 folder and or upf file.
View ArticleRE: [OR] Error Thrown When Simply Opening a File
I also mentioned cleaning out everything I could think of in both my PW shadow folders and mu Home Root pref folder. Is there another location to remove files?

wait, if you are using pw, does it open outside?
View ArticleRE: [OR] Assign Name and/or Feature Style to a Civil Object After the Fact
The 3D Linear Elements were create by Project Profile by Slope, which assigned a name and style to the Profile, but not to the 2D complex chain. Attempts to Assign a Feature Style and named were...

This is so exasperating! Would you believe that the file is now opening with no errors? The only thing I did was detached all reference files that were not blocked from detaching by a Civil dependency....

I have always creates a small arc at the point, and used that feature as the start of the slope. A single Point cannot be used as it has no start/end/direction - at least, that is how I see it.

It may not always be obvious what triangulation most likely approximates the world, but when we see a bad break line we can pretty easily establish that it's pretty bad. For my working example, I've...

This is how I have done it as well, and this will work if your goal is to tie it to a terrain. Apparently, you *might* be able to make it happen using profile by slope from point (keyin: geometry...

That's what I was thinking. Do you have a standard radius that you make the arc?
View ArticleRE: OpenRoads SS4 Grading around a point
I wonder if you create short incoming and outgoing tangents, the software will automatically create the transition around the corner. You shouldn't need to create a small fillet to do this.
View ArticleRE: OpenRoads SS4 Grading around a point
You wouldn't need a small fillet. You could do short tangents. But practically speaking, you'll get the same result as having one. Also, if you're transitioning from one side slope to another, it could...
