How to label a vertical alignment

$

Good morning!

I have come a long ways in completing my first Plan and Profile in ORD. Unfortunately, now I am stuck trying to figure out how to label my vertical alignment? I've read through the help section and searched online. I must be looking over it? All the questions I see answered are more advanced past the initial labeling.

Wanting to label my PVC's / PVI's / PVT's / Curve lengths / Low points / high points / K factor and slopes.

I figured it would have been in Drawing Production / Annotate element but I can't get that to do anything for my vertical.

The only video I found online skips right over where to hit the initial button (or goes way too fast for a beginner) and goes right into toggling what they want to label. I don't recognize that menu either? Pretty sure I haven't stumbled upon it yet.

I also did not see a toggle to identify my vertical scale. Only my horizontal "drawing scale". I imagine that needs set before I label the vertical. We tend to use 50'-H and 5'-V but on occasion I need something different like 40 and 4 and 50 and 2. All depending on the municipality requirements and sometimes how it fits on paper.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,

Jeremy

[ORD 2020 R2] Open Roads Locks Up If User Selects Network Workspace

We have a newer workspace on a network server (under "custom configuration") and an older version installed locally. I have a user that when he tries to select the one on the network, he gets the spinning circle icon and eventually is told ORD is not responding. If he selects the local workspace, it allows him to use the software but then he is not getting any enhancements that we have made since the original local workspace was created. According to the Civil File Manager, none of the DGNLIB's are "too new" for his version.

As a last resort, I am upgrading his PC to ORD 2020 R3, but if this does not fix it, does anyone know what else we can try? (We are only in a test mode with ORD, so we are not too concerned with Versions at this time.)

I recently installed Power Geopak V8i SS10 along with ProjectWise Explorer CONNECT 10.00.03.334. When I attempt to open a .dgn from Pw, I get a command prompt that says "MDL Loader: Could not load application componentview" along with several .NET Framework errors that say files are missing. If I open a .dgn on my desktop, Geopak functions properly. Has anyone seen this issue before?

Plan View Labeling in Open Roads

Hello,

I'm labeling plans in ORD FDOT Connect Edition.

I am using a text file do do all my labeling.

I rotate the text file based on my clip boundaries before I place labels.

For some reason, the labels do not follow the angle/current orientation of the text file.

Is there a way to fix or change this setting? I would like my labels to follow the current orientation of the text file/ clip boundary.

Thanking you in advanced!

[ORD] Geometry Builder - Creating Linestring Elements (and Not as Complex Chains) and the Problem of Annotating Results in Those Instances

$

As part of our testing and evaluation of ORD, our Plat Preparation users are looking at all of the various geometry tools and the geometry builder. While testing its capabilities, I recently discovered it can store a Feature Definition with each figure. But If we write the file to the DGN, if there are no arcs, it creates linestrings. The linear annotation tools do not deal with linestrings well at all. To get actual lengths and bearings on each segment, I had to use the Table Editor after placement to complex the segments. Only then did the annotation appear on each segment.

For a group that is lamenting the loss of COGO and the ability to preserve all steps needed to locate and rebuild parcels according to deeds, this is an annoying extra step.

Similarly, the Geometry Builder Edit also simplifies the graphics which then requires the use of the Table Editor again.

And we also need a way to annotate some or all segments with labels and to place that linear info into a table using those numbers. At our DOT, we number all elements sequentially per parcel, without regard to is it a line or an arc. Basically, each deed call is numbered sequentially. We would need that as an option as opposed to line tables and curve tables as separate and numbered separately, which I know is the standard for other localities and agencies.

i am using microstation v8i inroads ss2 version
Question-1 = i am looking for a way to get the unsuitable materials as surfaces
Question-2 = Is it possible to get separate area reports for above and below existing(ground) cross-sectional areas?
Question-3 =How to define stripping(unsutible material) by area and also stripping (unsutible material)
in fill at the same time per kilometers?

OpenSite Designer - cut/fill volumes for more pairs of surfaces

In InRoads XM, it was possible to select several pairs of original/design surfaces and to calculate triangle (cut/fill) volumes for all these pairs simultaneously. And all results could be exported to one file at once. Is there similar possibility in OpenSite Designer or is it necessary to calculate volumes separately for each pair of surfaces and to copy the result manually from active design file where it can be placed as a text element?

Background map masks the 3D Model in some areas of the project

We have integrated the satellite photos (file 3SM) and made it as a backgound map into our 3D Open Road model.
In some areas of the 3D model, the background map masks the corridors and the 3D model of the project
(see attached screen capture).
Is there a way to have the project averlay the background map and make it always shown ?

Thanks.

Dear Benley ORD advisor,

Something happened weird! Everything is working well two minutes ago, Just of a sudden, the sections disappeared in section view and the whole attached files show the X,Y,Z with strange text. (please see the snapshot below). I typed the commend of Geometry Dynamicsection Deletesveiw to get the sections back. But the attached files still don't show up.

I would more appreciate it if someone can help us solve this issue.

Kenny

Geopak's exception.log file is missing and unable to set .prj file

Hello all,

My first problem is that Geopak is crashing whenever I try to set up a new .prj file in the Project Manager (it throws up the error in the screenshot below).  And my subsequent problem which is related to this is that I am unable to find the exception.log file that an error message references.

For some context: I am trying to use Power GEOPAK v8i (SS10) v.08.11.09.918 for the first time, and I'm trying to go to the Geopak menu, select the project category I'm in, then select "Project Manager" and then in the Project Manager select "projects" at the top and select to cre ate a new project, and once that input window comes up, as I select my project name, working directory, and job number, it fails with the following message:

But when I navigate to the specified folder it claims the log will be in, there is no exception.log file in that folder, so I am not even able to begin troubleshooting this issue by reading the log.  I do have my Windows File Explorer settings set so that I can view all hidden folders, etc.

My OS: Windows 10 home.  Basic hardware: intel i7 2.60 GHz cpu, 16 gb ram, nvidia RTX 2070.

My network: I am connecting directly to a prime's projectiwise datasource and getting the files from there without any VPN or file server.

I am not using any 3rd party apps or macros.

The problem appears to happen with all files that I try to set this setting on.

Thank you!

Geopak Drainage - Incorrect Loss Calculations

$

I'm using Geopak Drainage on MicroStation SS4. I noticed that the values reported for "Total Loss at Upstream of Link" do not appear to be using the loss equations listed in the Help Documents for Geopak. Is this a known issue?

I've calculated the Terminal Loss manually [(K*V^2)/2g] using every velocity I can generate from Geopak Drainage (Actual Upstream, Actual Downstream, Iterative, Critical, Full, Uniform) and NONE of them match the loss value generated by Geopak. My preferences are set to use the actual velocity for loss calculations. The "Defined Equations" use K=1.0 for terminal inlets, so it should just boil down to V^2/64.4, but as you can see from the screenshots this is not the loss that is being calculated (I get the same results when supplying a K of 1.0). Any ideas? Or is this an unresolved issue with Geopak?

Example: The "Actual Upstream" velocity in the screenshot, V = 2.681. Loss = (K*V^2)/2g = (1*2.681^2) / 64.4 = 0.112. The Loss in the Link Configuration Computations window = 0.161.

Yon can change the transparency of the realitymesh, you can clip it or mask it (make Hole in it)  But if you want display order you need to work in 2D, in 3D elements are displayed where they are created.

When will OpenRoads Designer version comes out that runs on Update 15 of the Power platform?

Recently MicroStation Connect released update 15 which runs on the 10.15.00.019 power platform... This caused us to have to update our mdl application due to changes in the API.

The latest release of OpenRoadsDesigner (2020 Update 3) is still running on on the 10.14.04.004 power platform.. This is causing problems with our mdl application.

Any news on when the power platform will be updated in OpenRoadsDesigner?

Thanks!

Hi

what would be the best way to create a corridor with 3 types of slopes.
Nr 1 road start with -25 0/00 from CL to each EOP, then goes to 25 0/00 left side slope and then over to 25 0/00 right side slope

Nr 2 road start with a 25 0/00 left side slope , then goes to -25 0/00 slope from CL to each EOP, and then to 25 0/00 right side slope .

I am using OpenRoads Designer.
