Integration of background maps into 3-D open Roads Model

$

Using "open road designer"  and "Open bridge modeler", we completed a 3-D model of an interchange (geometry, corridors, terrain, bridges, etc.).

We tried but could not integrate the backgound maps (Microsoft Bing maps) into our 3-D model.

How can  we do it ?

Is there a training, a document or a video, we could follow ?

Thanks.

Hello everyone !

I have an issue with the construction of a Stormwater cell !

I created the Following 3d Headwall and its 2d-Plan elements :

Upon defining the feature and symbology. I placed the node : The Plan component of the Node is placed accurately but the location point for the 3d component is off :

I tried Moving the location point and alignement point of the 3d component with no success !

The Cells : Subsurface Feature Definitions

Can anyone identify the problem  ?

Thank you !

How to get ORD and Microstation CE to work together?

$

How can I set up MicroStation CE to use the same standards I have set up for ORD?

I created a /Organization-Civl/ directory on my server, and a sub-folder /PennDOT Design/, and that contains all of PennDOT standards.

I also have a PennDOT Design.cfg file in the /Organization-Civil/ directory.

I edited the ConfigurationSetup.cfg and WorkSpace.cfg on my C: to point to my server /Organization-Civil/

My ORD seems to work fine with this setup.

But I can not get Microsation CE to use the same files (.dgnlibs, etc) in the /Organization-Civil/ directory, without copying then entire folder into the /WorkSpaces/ directory (creating two copies of everything).

Also, if i open a .dgn with ORD and assign a workset to it, then i can no longer open the same .dgn with Microstation CE.

How do you get your triangles and lines back on a terrain model if they disappear when changing the feature definition or the element template.

I am not sure if there is something wrong with the terrains I created or what,  I have used this method to clean up the edges before and it worked fine.  But not it seems like I cannot select the terrain and when I change the feature definition or element template all the lines and everything disappear and I cannot get them back at all.

I doing all of this to clean up the terrain lines that are out side of my boundary in the few areas.  I am trying to use the insert vertex way of cleaning up the triangles I don't want.

Starting Geopac and/or Openroads with my company - Where do I start?

While working remotely from home, I have been ordered to begin using either Geopac and/or Openroads to use as my primary Civil Package with Microstation to produce my Residential Street plan and profiles with. Both software's were purchased in 2017 and was loaded onto my machine but never used. The program I was using up until 3 weeks ago is no longer supported and not possible to update. This past 3 weeks I have fumbled around to try to figure out on my own how to produce a Residential Street Plan and Profile and can't seem to figure out if it is even possible. I spent 2 weeks with Geopac and was able to produce an existing ground profile along with a key-ed in proposed vertical alignment with all the required labels but that was about as far as I could take it. Then I spent a week on Openroads and was able to station my alignment but that was about it there. I am beginning to wonder if I even have the latest versions of either software or if the versions I have are even complete. There are yet a lot of things to figure out yet to see if either these software's will do what I need for my final product. And I've about exhausted all my online sources. I am new to the Bentley Community but I have used microstation for 30 years since it was called Intergraph. Any help would be appreciated as to where I need to go or who I need to contact to see if I have the latest packages and to weather either package can produce what we need as a final product. Or to where I would need to go to obtain the manuals needed to learn these software's better. I'm sure Covid has stopped all in-person training in my area or that would be another option. I would sure like to remain on microstation since I've worked it for so long for I would be forced to join the AutoCAD Civil 3D gang if I am unable to produce.

The full product versions are as follow:

PowerGEOPAK_08.11.09.878

Openroads Designer Connect Edition (downloaded 9-22-2017)

Microstation V8i (select series 4)

I have yet to figure out how to:

1. Place offset existing grade profiles 25' left and right

2. Create a custom corridor and run a design along my proposed vertical alignment

3. Create a proposed surface "contours" from the ran corridor

4. In which would lead to figuring out how to calculate earthwork between my existing and proposed surfaces for a final product.

Any help to where would be a good place for me to begin would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Jones

Inroads vs OpenRoads Volume report

Hello

In Inroads there was a Report in the Evaluation Folder called  " Volumes With Replaced Added To Normal Fill.xsl, It seems this report is no longer in the list. I did try to copy the xsl file over but it would not give results just a blank page. Any help getting this file updated or a work around would be great

Thanks Sean

Hello

Just trying to create / display an offset profile showing the Original ground offset 10m right and left of my centerline. This was easy in Inroads but can't seem to find the solution in ORD.

Thanks Sean

Inroads vs Openroads

Hello

In Inroads when calculating volumes (from Cross sections) there was an option to compute Unsuitable Materials by Feature. You could specify a thickness for each material that had to be removed

Example was could be

Topsoil strip 200mm

Asphalt strip 100mm in one area and

Asphalt strip 150mm in another area

Peat strip 1200mm

etc.

Any help with setting this up would be great.

Thanks Sean

Hello,

I exported the file from waterGEMS to OpenRoads using shapefile, however, the water segment is still in 2D, with no elevation. But the water nodes were exported correctly. How can I solve this problem?
The problem is in the image bellow.

Drainage and Utilities (SUDA) Material Libraries Location

Is it possible to point ORD Drainage and Utilities to a network location for the Engineering Libraries?  I would like to add some additional materials, add/modify inlet types, rainfall data, etc.  I can see they all point to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\SUDA\Libraries\.

This seems like it should be simple.  I hope I am just missing something obvious.

[ORD 2020R3] SSD analysis takes ages

Hi All,

We're running some tests on 2020R3 and found that SSD analysis (with Move Target to achieve visibility option enabled) takes ages (right now around one hour and still processing) in comparison to the same analysis run in 2020R2 (used to take up to 5 min). The model I analyze is roughly 3km long corridor and I use alignment + surface input. Anyone else come across this?

Krzysztof

OR Program error. Decimal separator is changed when I change global illumination setting

When I'm using Openroads, and I change the global illumination setting, the decimal point is changed from red to comma. I appreciate it in the accudraw coordinates window, so I have to restart the program because it does not recognize the decimals in the templates and other orders.
Has anyone had this problem? I appreciate help because it is very uncomfortable.

My regional configuration in windows is the following:

OpenRoad 2020 R1 Item types exporting instances

I am starting out to add items types to my objects in OpenRoads 2020 R1 update 8 10.08.00.88. I have had no problems creating libraries, adding them to the objects and exporting/importing the definitions. Every time I want to export out the instances I get the window 'OpenRoads Designer has stopped working' and nothing else has happened. I have tried by both selection being 'All' and also 'Current selection'. I have also tried to various directories on my machine, but due to firm set-up I cannot do it directly on to c drive, only under sub-directories. I don't know if the import function works as have nothing exported to try. Any help gratefully received to help me make this work. Thank you

Is it possible to add a smart surface element to the vertical alignment view?

I am trying to create a vertical alignment that connects from an existing terrain to a layout made from smart surfaces. I have tried to add via Quick Profile from Surface but the smart surface is not valid for the tool.

Is there another way to show the smart surface in the Vertical alignment window?

[ORD] Drainage and Utilities Component Catalog link to Feature Definitions

What makes the link between the Drainage and Utilities features (inlets, manholes, inlets, etc.) and their corresponding Feature Definitions? I have already set up our standard Feature Definitions tied to their Feature Symbologies and Element Templates and cells. How do I link them to the D&U items? Do the names need to be the same, or is their some other way to link them?

[ORD] How to set up hydraulic properties of inlets (also Neenah grate question)

$

I can't figure out where in the inlet library I would enter the Free Open Area and Weir Perimeter for each inlet type. In GEOPAK this was simple to enter and you could also enter a clogging factor. How do you do this in ORD?

I also tried following the help for how to enter Neenah grates using their K factor charts. Do I understand correctly that I would need a separate entry for each of the cross-slopes from the Neenah book (1%, 2%, 4%, 6%)? Does ORD then interpolate for the actual cross-slope? In GEOPAK I didn't use the Neenah info. I only entered Open Area and Weir Perimeter with a clogging factor where necessary.  Has anyone successfully modeled Neenah grates?
