Dear All

I have attached one .itl file here. Please refer the Verge template. In this when i am testing it in ORD it is acting differently in Fill portion. While in MX Road SS4 or Inroads, it is acting correctly. Originally it was prepared in Inroads. Please suggest what i am missing ( I think there is problem with Roll Over, but not able to resolve).

Thanks in advance

Set Active Workflow

Hi there,

I am a new user on OpenRoads Designer Connect Edition. I recently installed the software and beginning a new site development project. I have been following the training modules on Bentley Learning Server when I noticed that the "Survey" workflow is missing under the "set active workflow"  drop-down menu.

I have searched the ribbon, file settings, preferences, configuration options, and MDL applications... Is there something I am missing in these areas? or is there any advice/instruction anybody can provide that may help me resolve this issue?

Jeffrey

Profile View Drawing

Self teaching ORD Connect-2020 Release 1 update 8 (coming from MSV8 SS4 & GEOPAK CE Suite)

I have an alignment and have three profile views: Centerline and right and left side curblines. Maybe I'm already doing this wrong, but I'm drawing my existing/proposed utilities in these profile views. The centerline profile worked great, I used Civil Accudraw to place everything at correct stations etc.

When I moved to the curbline profiles to start drawing, I am noticing a discrepancy in the stationing. All the profile attributes, the profile reports, the labeling within the profile window all make sense, but Civil Accudraw is off by exactly 71' when I try to draw something. I've attached a pictures of both the curb profile and CL profile. The only differences between the CL versus the curb profiles is that I projected another profile for curbs for sidewalk elevations and then I drew the proposed curb profile and copied it to the other profile.

I realize that this is my doing....but where would it have happened? and How?

Thanks in advance.

[GPK SS4] Please refresh my memory about Native vs. OpenRoads technology in SS4?

I'm back in PowerGeopak SS4, and it's been a few years...

As I recall, I need to develop my alignments (H & V) in the OpenRoads portion of the project, then export them to Native in order to be able to draw and annotate them for plans production. I also believe that I need to develop my corridor in the OpenRoads, then "export" my cross sections to a drawing in order to create sheets. But I'm not sure about any one of those steps...My SS4 experience and training was spotty at best, and most of that was for InRoads. Now that I'm back to Geopak, I'm second-guessing everything I thought I knew.

I was given a GPK file with my horizontal alignments, and I was able to import that into an alignment drawing, so I have OpenRoads alignments. At the moment, they are all in a single drawing...I think it might be better if I split them out to their own individual drawings so that different people can work on different portions of the project (One person doing side roads while someone else does Mainline1 and another does Mainline2). Or is that not going to work when it comes to modeling the different corridors to each other (Do they all need to be in the same drawing to be able to reference each other)?

How much of the design can we do with the native tools? And when I import Native back to OpenRoads, will it modify any geometry already there, or will it create additional geometry? Similarly, when we make adjustments in the OpenRoads technology and we need to export back to Native, does the information modify the existing COGO (etc.) or does it generate an extra set of geometry?

Do we have do do corridor modeling, or are we able to use criteria files? I'm capable in either, but I want to know what options might be available for all of our team members who aren't me.

I was looking through the Wiki and the on-demand training, but it seemed more efficient to just come here and ask.
Thank you.

Vertical Profile Anotation

I have created my first project in Open Roads last week. it was great but i some problems that i was not able to sort out with the support of the forum and the video tutorials.

1. Vertical Anotation:

I can get the vertical anotation (k values, gradients...) in my profile:

2. When I print out the the different sheets i had a lot of problems with the plot styles. If I try to print out in the original colours the lines are so think and it is not clear.

Hand annotate cross sections in OpenRoads SS4 in sheet model

We are just switching to OpenRoads from criteria Geopak and need to hand add items and analyze elevations/offsets in the cross section sheets. There doesn't seem to be a tool to do so and measuring from the grid is extremely time consuming. It seems that there must be a better way we are missing as this is a huge issue. Is there a solution out there?

How to display cut and fill feature lines in different colors in the generate sloped surface command

In the generate slope surface dialog box, there's a catch point check box. However you can only select either cut or fill. Is there any way that both cut and fill will display in different colors?

[ORD 2020R1] Station Offset Report doesn't show existing elevations

Hi, I am trying to report proposed and existing elevations along alignment at specified interval including level delta similar to annotation on profile.

I have tried the Station Offset Report on alignment with active existing terrain active. ProfileExistingProposedElevation.XSL looks like the best report for this task but the existing elevations and the cut fill depths are missing.

Is there anything I am missing? Is there any other way to compile such report e.g. modifying a stylesheet or perhaps using different reporting tool?

I have also tried Terrain > Analysis > Points > Analyze Elevation (in 3D model) but I can't specify the chainage interval and it doesn't report the chainage.

creating cross section is very slow in ORD

Creating Cross Section is very slow in ORD to a point of bordering on timewaste???

we currently have 11km ORD project broken into 5 corridors, then we go and create / draw cross section at 20m interval (577 cross section) with only design and existing DTM.

This is currently taken 3.5 hrs.....yes everyone 3.5hrs, if I was doing this in MX is would take 30 secs.

Has any one some tip/trick on how to reduce this time by a least 1000%, as 3.5hrs is very frustrating …….currently using version 10.07.03.18.

[GPK SS4] Cross section border as reference?

$

I am using PowerGeopak SS4. I am using the native Geopak tools wherever possible.

i have a border file to use as a reference for creating my cross sections. Unfortunately, in the native tools to create cross section sheets, there is no option to include the border as a reference. I can place a border cell IN a reference that could then be attached, but I don't see where I could actually reference an already existing border.

I thought this was possible...Am I confused? Is there a way, with the Geopak native tools, to use a border reference?
I suppose that I could allow Geopak to create a dummy border reference, after which I could go back through my sheets and re-path those reference. That's a lot of repathing...

Frame Annotations on OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Update 1 Ver. 10.01.00.15

Goodmornig,

I’m slowly trying to move from Inroads SS33 to OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Update 1 Ver. 10.01.00.15.

It seems that no example or “template” data of Frame Annotations for Profiles is present in any DGNLIB in my PC. Consequently it is not clear to me how to create a new Frame Annotation.

I’m wondering if it is possible to download a DGNLIB with some Frame Annotations example for Profiles and Cross Sections.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Creating Drainage Profile Sheets

$

The workflows I've seen so far are built around Plan and/or Profile displays of drainage profiles along linear features (roads).  We needed a process for creating Drainage Profile Plan Sheets that would provide the ability to show many profiles (10+) on one sheet.  This is often needed to show all the branch lines for a dendritic storm sewer system.  Also, we needed this process to be flexible because each Drainage Profile sheet will be different: the number and layout of the profiles will be different for each sheet.  So we don't want to be locked into using the same Sheet Seed, nor have to create a special Sheet Seed each time.  The following is a workflow that I developed with a colleague (hat tip to Joe Muni of JAM Engineering). I'd appreciate any feedback the user community might have on this, especially if others have come up with other and better approaches.  Thanks!

  1. Create profiles using ORD Drainage and Utilities tools.
  2. For each profile, do the following:
    1. In project explorer, right-click profile and select "Open Profile Model", and select view window to create dynamic profile.
    2. Under Drawing Production tab, used Named Boundary to create named boundary.
    3. In the Create Drawing dialog, accept all defaults, and make sure box for "Open Model" is checked.  Click OK.
    4. When new Sheet model opens, verify that profile was created correctly.  Then use view control to return to the design model.
  3. After Step 2 has been completed for all profiles, go to Home tab, and under Primary group open the Models dialog.
    1. Sort the list of models by type.
    2. For each Drawing model, provide a meaningful logical name such as "IN-32 to MH-45".  Or, name a profile by the last pipe such as "P-54".
    3. Delete all the Sheet models except one.
    4. Rename the Sheet model "Profile Sheet Seed"
  4. Using view control, open the Profile Sheet Seed model, and then use File Reference to detach the attached Drawing model.
  5. In the Models dialog, make a copy of the Profile Sheet Seed model and rename it "Profile Sheet_1".
  6. Using view control, open the Profile Sheet_1 model.
  7. Go to File>Reference and do the following to reference successive Drawing models to create the Drainage Profile Sheet.  Note that all the models reside within the active DGN.
    1. Click Attach Reference, and browse to the current active design DGN file and select it.
    2. Select the drawing model for the desired profile to reference into the Sheet model.
    3. Use Move Reference to move the location of the profile as desired.
    4. Select the handle for the drawing model clip boundary and drag it to a location outside the sheet border.
    5. Use the manipulators at the corners of the drawing model clip boundary to adjust as needed.
    6. Continue adding profiles to Profile Sheet_1 until the sheet is fully utilized.
  8. Repeat Steps 5 to 7, creating Profile Sheet_2, Profile Sheet_3, etc., until Sheet models are created to capture all the generated profiles.

[IR SS4] Setting active profile does not create 3d geometry

$

Hello,

I've got some OpenRoads geometry that's been imported into OR SS4 from a GPK file. It displays in the 2d model, If I select and open the profile window, that looks good too.
Of the 6 alignments, 4 will display in 3d-model when I set their profile active, the other 2 will not. I've looked at the basic stuff - all levels on,
construction class turned on, I don't see any obvious difference between the alignments that work and those that don't. I also tried importing into ORD and got the same results.
Is there anything else to check? I'm using the Bentley-Civil-Imperial workspace. DGN file attached.

Thanks,

Tom F

Issue with Georeferencing a 3mx Multi Resolution Mesh file from ContextCapture

$

I'm attempting to bring a .3mx file into ORD so that I may convert it into a TIN file. I'll explain my steps as well as where the error with georeferencing begins, along with some screen shots.

1) Create a .3mx file, with the Production set to export using my local State Plane system: NAD 83 / North Carolina (ftUS) (EPSG:2264) as its SRS.

2) In ORD, I set my Geographic Coordinate System to match my CC Production export SRS: NAD 83 / North Carolina (ftUS) (EPSG:2264)

3) "Attach Mesh" --> Select my file --> Make sure "Attach and Apply Geographic Coordinate System" is checked --> "OK"

4) I am prompted with a warning message that my Mesh is displayed in a different Coordinate System and that existing geometry will be effected.

Any ideas on why ORD is not reading the GCS of my .3mx correctly?

In addition to this error, when I look at my .3mx file in the Reality Mesh Attachments menu, my GeoCS is set to none. Have I not set my Coordinate System already by choosing to "Attach and Apply Geographic Coordinate System"?

Thanks in advance.

Which setting I have to change in ORD?

I have a strange behaviour with ORD in my design: When placing a simple offset, I can easy edit the different distance inside de DGN.

I can edit inside the DGN

but when adding a simple arc or chamfer I have to dive into the properties of the line element to edit the distance.

It grays out

I tried all day to create a simpe civilcell, but it strands probably on this behaviour.

Geometry Table Editor in Openroads Designer

$

I'm using ORD 2019 R1. While working on horizontal geometry I've noticed the Table editor tool does not work if the geometry is not PI based. It is not working when there is a reverse curve, and also after redefining complex it is not working properly (for redefined part it's saying "..not PI based", so before and after the redefined part, it's providing the data separately, with wrong station values).

Can anyone kindly tell why is that? There shall be this table editor from where we can easily modify the alignment. Civil 3D is having a panoroma window from where we can easily modify the geometry and we need same flexibility/ease to properly utilize ORD.

Thanks in advance

ORD crashes too often

I'm using ORD 2019 Release 1. For last a few days, I'm noticing that it crashes too often; say whenever i'm opening Explorer, even when I'm putting some vertical alignment, or making a small change changing the dynamic text. This problem was not there previously. This issue is wasting a lot of man hours and hampering the work (thanks God that it saves work done before closing). The problem is not with the file or workspace, as with new file also I'm facing the same issue.

Can anyone kindly suggest the dos and donts to avoid crasing the software? And, is there any Audit tool to check and fix any error in the file?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I was wondering if it possible to import horizontal geometry (complex chain) from drawing in Openroads, as it was possible in Inroads.
