The ability to specify the abbreviations will be added in a future release. Until then, it can be done in the current release by creating a separate Annotation Definition for each Cardinal Point...

You are correct about the linking codes only being used at import. The linking codes are not stored with the point. In other words they aren't persistent. I like the Inroads method much better.
