RE: Subsurface Utilities - Extract graphics fails when selection set created before starting command

Something appears to be broken in the code which determines connectivity between multiple selected elements.  it is not an issue of selected before command or not as originally reported.  The failure seems to be occurring when one element in the selection is backwards direction compared to what would be expected.

Try this:

  1. Create 2 microstation lines  headed in the same general direction.  For example, both northeasterly but with a deflection between them.
  2. Then create a Microstation fillet between them being careful to pick first line first so that the fillet follows the same general direction.
  3. Use the Utility from Graphics commands and it will work.
  4. You can even create a complex chain of the three elements and the command continues to work as expected.
  5. Now repeat the above except make the fillet go backwards, that is pick the 2nd line first when creating the fillet.
  6. Now using the Utility from graphics command, selecting the three elements will fail, creating only the nodes.
  7. If you create a complex chain from the three elements, the extraction works but the portion of the utility created in curve will jump from PC to PT.

Subsurface Utilities - Extract graphics fails when selection set created before starting command

When using the Extract Utility From Graphics command, the creation of conduits fails when line graphics are selected before starting the command.

Using any graphics and any terrain model and the Bentley example work spaces.

Version 8.11.09.878

  1. Run command without selection set
    1. Start the extract utility from graphics command.
    2. use a feature definition for a conduit, such as fiber optic
    3. at the command prompt, select multiple lines
    4. everything works as expected
  2. Run the command with a selections set created in advance
    1. Select multiple lines using the selection tool
    2. then start the extract utility from graphics command.
    3. at the prompt datapoint to accept the selected lines
    4. Nodes are created at the ends but no conduits are created,

Hi Amita,

Thank you for your follow-up =) I will re-visit my dataset & test it once more, then get back to you with findings. I'm currently using OpenRoads with Power InRoads V8i, SELECT series 4, V08.11.09.872-MR2.

Hi Purva,

This is a good start =)  Thank you. I'd like to test with my dataset once more and get back to you. In fact, I'm new to annotation scale. It may take some time to understand how it works ^*. Have a good day!

OpenRoads Survey Annotation Scale

Hello,

In general, how does survey annotation scale works in OpenRoads?  Where is the base size set at?  Our cells are coming in at a scale of 1200 before the annotation scale is applied.

HELLO FRIENDS....

I NEED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THREE ALIGNMENT METHODS{ELEMENT, QUICK ALIGNMENT, AND BESTFIT ALIGNMENT}. WHAT THE ARE THE CASES WE CAN USE THESE THREE METHODS. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THESE THREE METHODS.

PLEASE GIVE ME SOME IDEA ABOUT THESE.

THANKS AND REGARDS,

I have found that one should avoid commas and semicolons in file and folder names at all costs. Commas screw up InRoads RWK files and semicolons screw up configuration variables.

Well, this wasn't a configuration variable, but your point is taken. I can especially see a semicolon causing trouble on an environment variable.

Geopak cross section sheet composition doesn't like commas in the xs filename

I'm using Geopak SS4 .878 and my coworker is using .872. Both of us see the same problem, though it's probably a very old problem. I see nothing on it in the documentation.

We're creating cross section sheets. We have many phases, and most of them are split into subphases. I'd rather use commas than periods because I have a perhaps-irrational aversion to using periods in filenames except to precede the file extension. So we had file names like xs-ph4,0.dgn. When selecting this file and others, the module kept reporting that there were no valid cells, but we knew they were perfectly valid. We just didn't know what was wrong.

Finally, he observed that a couple of cross section sets laid out fine, and those that did didn't have commas in the filenames; the rest of them did.

Apparently commas break the module. This suggests that the module is designed for multiple files in a list delimited by commas. Not particularly likely or useful, but there it is. Apparently it doesn't work to put quotation marks around it either.

So I looked into the help file, found Command Reference / Cross Sections / Cross Section Sheet Composition / Cross Section Sheet Composition / Sheet Options / XS DGN File, which has no mention of the use of comma in the filename. I did a search for "comma" and only CSV files such as for survey points were referenced.

Too long, didn't read: Using Geopak's cross section sheet composition on a file whose name has a comma won't work.

It does save the other preferences. Just not the text attributes for the curve data.

D&C Manager Not Saving Preferences

I'm setting up a new D&C Manager in PowerGEOPAK (SS3).  I make a change to the curve data layout (i.e. level, wt., font) but it doesn't save my preferences even though I save the D&C.

Any ideas?

[OR] How Can I Measure a Slope Between Two Points in a Profile or Cross Section View (Model?)

Does anyone have a method to measure a slope between two points in the Open Roads Profile or Cross Section Models?

I know I can use the Profile Between Points command, but than I am creating a new profile element. And what if I want to label it for reference?

Convert to SS4 from SS2

AS a newby to SS4, and with Geopak in general, I’m looking to get pointed in the correct direction.  What I have is a survey done in SS2 that I would like to convert into SS4.  The terrain has been converted but I would like the features (if that’s the correct name) converted too.  My goal is to create cross-sections with items such as existing pavement, ex curbs, ex paved ditches, ex. Utilities, ex sewers … to be imported into the cross sections.  I have managed to create the cross sections with the proposed roadway, pr. Walls, … and existing ground surface.  I have also managed to automate property line and easements as part of the cross-sections creation.  So the question is how do I get the linework created in SS2 survey to be recognized by SS4?

Get Data Acquisition model to stay off.

Is there a way to get the Data Acquisition model to stay off in a file? I have used to to double check some survey data graphics that was brought it with InRoads Survey and I'd like to keep it attached but be able to turn it off. I uncheck the model box but the problem is it always comes back on when I reopen the file. This is with IR SS2 version 08.11.07.619 and MS SS4 version 08.11.09.829

How to remove Civil Rule but maintain only visible intervals (multiple elements at one time)

Microstation version 08.11.09.714

Geopak Version 08.11.09.845

We have various civil horizontal geometry elements that we would like to "break" or "drop" to normal Microstation elements.  We are doing this outside of our normal design file (separate file) so our design file still has the rules associated with it.

Is there a way to use the "Copy Element" tool ("Do not Copy Rules" has to be checked) from the Horizontal Geometry and the "Element Selection" tool together?  I want to select the civil horizontal geometry elements all at 1 time instead of single selection.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

RE: [OR] Can a Corridor or Linear Template be Copied?

$

I had to do this because my corridor kept getting corrupted and was taking too long to process. I ended up doing a save as of the file and then splitting each copy into shorter segments. Its a workaround but point controls and parametric constraints don't update to the new length of the corridor. It also left behind several random lines and features that were within the lengths of the full corridor but not the newer smaller copy of it. So in short it works to copy/do a save as but there are limitations.
