Hi Tina,
Thank you let me know. In fact, I was able to make same quick profile view using context sensitivity dialog box. It's good to know there is another way to do the same =)

OpenRoads Profile View

Hello,

In OpenRoads, beside creating a quick profile view, is there a command to plot profile view as plan preparation in 2D similar to InRoads SS2? (Evaluation  > Create Profile) ?

OpenRoads End area Volumes Report

Hello,

In OpenRoads, I created a cross section set. Beside generate a report using End area volumes command similar to InRoads SS2, is there another command to generate the same report (volumes of Cut/Fill/Components) in OpenRoads?

RE: Display reference string chainage in MXROAD dynamic sections

Hi Chris,

I can't get this NOT to work.

I pick a Design and ground model, go in to Dynamic Sections and set up a set of sections from chainage 270 to 540. The actual alignment is from 0-2000.
When in the Dynamic Section viewer, the scroll bar along the bottom is from chainage 270 to 540. I've tried it a few times with different chainage ranges, and also by doing the whole length first off, and it always puts the correct value in the scroll bar.

I'm happy to look at your data, you can send it to me simon.pegg@bentley.com

Thanks

Simon

OK, after digging a bit further, I can recreate the issue. It happens for me if the Section Location is set to SELECT Regular Chainage Intervals.
If I pick chainange 350 - chainage 570 and have Select Regular Interval set to 10, then the scroll bar in the viewer is set to 10 for the first section and incrementing by 10 for each subsequent section.

Can you check what you and your colleague have set for this option ?

I can't find a workaround, so I guess I need to log a defect.

Si,

That's the option I was using, I suspect my colleague was not. As the master string is typically in 5m increments I'll happily take that as a workaround for now, if you ever find a fix that would be a bonus! Thanks for your help, it was just a tiny thing that really bugged me and reduced the utility of dynamic sections.

What version of PowerCivil for North America are you using? When you state it isn't working, what is happening when you click on the command? Is it giving you any sort of error or just not bringing up the command, etc?

I went back into regular InRoads SS2 version 08.11.07.615 and tested the process. I can open the command and browse to different template libraries, etc. and the command runs fine. I did not test in PCNA as I don't have that exact product and version, but don't know of a defect in PCNA.

In PowerCivil for North America :

"Surfaces > Desgin Surface >Apply Template"   This option is not working.  I could not find any option about Templates

RE: MOT Construction Staging in OpenRoads (GEOPAK)

Brian,

What you are asking is quite a "age-old" issue. Here is one older solution (SS2, pre-OR) that would have to be modified a bit to work in OR, and would not get you anything but final design broken into pieces. The temporary detours, etc would still need to be created as individual corridors, but that was true both pre-OR and now.

The one spot where OR could be leveraged as a benefit over SS2 would be with corridor clipping. Let's say you are doing partial construction and only half of the road will be built in Ph1. Well, you could reference the overall design into your Ph1 file, then clip out the part not being built. If you needed a temporary end condition along this edge, you would need to create a linear element that uses the proposed pavement (or FG terrain) as its vertical, then run a linear template (or corridor) along that element. This is just one example, there are probably others as well.

I will also add that the good news is that Bentley is fully aware of the difficulties involved with this process and are looking into more efficient solutions to provide our users.

How can construction staging be modeled in GEOPAK SS4?  Before OpenRoads, we typically had plan sheets and typical sections to show staging for lane shifts, temporary pavement, crossovers, etc.  Quantity calculations were quite cumbersome for each phase.  How can OpenRoads make this more efficient?  Would each phase be modeled as a separate corridor?  Each with its' own terrain model?

Thanks in advance,

Brian

There is a tool to create 3D linear features from a plan element with profile elements belonging to it. I don't know that you have the same button setup as I have, so I'm not sure where you'll find it, but I think it's called Create Additional 3D Element or something like that. From there, a 3D element will be created within your 3D model.

If you will only need one profile, you'll be able to get away with skipping the previous step I mentioned. You can instead select the profile element and assign it as the Active Profile. From there, the 3D element will be created and will follow any change you may make to that profile or plan element.

RE: Openroads Conceptstation, how many country can using geocoordinate service?

Hi, currently the GeoCoordination Services offers terrain and imagery data for the US (through USGS) and Canada (through GeoGratis). We are currently working on adding Global coverage. This should be available before the end of the year. In the meantime, if you already have terrain and imagery data, it is always possible to import it directly in OpenRoads ConceptStation in order to start your project. The data available from the GeoCoodination Services is free and open data. Depending on your need, the resolution available might not be sufficient. That's why in some cases, it might be required to get detailed data from different sources and import this data through the OpenRoads ConceptStation Import functionality. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need more information.

When I try create new project for example I choose Hungary but geocoordinate service cant find any data for terrain and imagery.

Now time how many country can use geocoordinate service?

If I can't find any data of terrain and imagery then how I get data's?

Hmmm..perhaps less simple than above.  More erratic at least.  Attached is graphic data and terrain model. (Please visit the site to view this file)(Please visit the site to view this file)
