How can I export an existing profile as an xml?
This would be useful for archiving, however I have a slightly different situation currently.
I am shifting from ground to grid, so I am recreating the shifted horizontal alignments with the "complex by element" tool and the "Modify/Start Station" tool, and then creating an xml file for the shifted horizontal alignments to import into ConceptStation.
However, I can't figure out how to export out the profile from the original unshifted horizontal alignment.
I can display the "Profile Report" but how do I save this as an xml.
And then how would I associate the horizontal xml and the vertical xml?
Hi all,
I've been dabbling with Generative Components using OpenBuildings to see if I can use it with ORD to provide some additional automation - essentially build dynamic objects that can be built and updated in OBD using GC and then used as a reference in ORD where I would build a relationship to these objects.
Taking away from the fact we urgently need some type of scripting for at least drawing production in ORD, it occurred to me that ORD rules and relationships/Civil Cells are already essentially providing computational design (not too sure why it is not being marketed as such). Looking at Civil 3D and Dynamo, they seem to be just adding functionality ORD already has, so curious as to what the difference ia between tools like GC and Dynamo in the Civil space - a graph that lets you view and edit relationships? The ability to add decisions to relationships (ie. IF, ELSE, etc.)? Ability to create new relationship types/nodes?
My organisation is pushing into the computational design space and I'm wondering whether I could consider ORD to have computational design capability or too much of a stretch?

I'm finding as I continue to work with OpenRoads Designer (Connect 2018 Release 2), that it would be helpful to export a Terrain to an STM.
The functionality of the STM seems to be helpful in many ways, including being able to generate simplified contours to reduce the processing requirements during the design (using a Terrain and switching contours on and off, especially if the terrain isn't clipped extremely tightly to the corridor, seems to cause huge amounts of lag and high probability of crashing and other instability). It would also be helpful to convert point clouds to STM without the Quick Ground Extraction for LiDAR data that is already processed.
I also work within stream channels, floodways and floodplains and need to export design features for use in ArcMaps for use in HEC-RAS and similar hydraulic modelling. Currently only STMs are eligible to be exported to Raster formats for use in Arc/RAS.
Is there a way to add those functions to the designer workflow for Terrains, or at least to allow Terrains (including complex terrains with design elements incorporated into them) into STM for interoperability with other platforms?
Hi,
For a particular project when I am creating a cross-section, it's creating a haphazardly and overlapping cross-section in a single column with only design and existing ground level line, no annotations.
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks,

I am wanting to match an existing project profile sheet. they have the PVC and PCT right bottom justified and positioned to the outside of the leader line. how do I get my placement method to attach to the outside instead of the inside? Thanks!
Hi
Whenever I make a new corridor, the corridor feature lines seem to end up on the default level I have on. I am working on projectwise and my workmates don't seem to have the same setting. They go on different levels depending on what component that feature line is set on. Kerb level for kerbs, carriageway level for carriageway, etc.
What setting should I be looking for to resolve this issue. I have tried reinstalling Powercivil and Projectwise but to no avail. I hoped by doing so it would take whatever setting it is in the workspace of Projectwise for a particular project.
I am using Powercivil for Denmark SS4
Thank you.
Hi,
I have created a .tiff terrain model in a program called Agisoft and now I am having trouble to import it to OpenRoads, is there any quick solution to this?
Thank you,
Tomás
Hi,
Does anyone know how to remove the components fill from the cross sections?
Sometimes components display filled, and sometimes not. It's pretty random...
Thanks,
Pat
What's the difference between a digital terrain model (DTM) and a scalable terrain model (STM) ?
I'm getting a .NET Framework exception when using the Search utility in the Explorer window.
Yesterday the Search function worked fine and the only thing that has changed, that I'm aware of, is an update to Microsoft Office and a reboot.
I wanted to try to create a surface file from a GDB file. is it possible?
using OpenSite DCE
Why is Inroads truncating my coordinates to two places when imported via a text file? The text file has them out to 5 places past the decimal. The preferences are set to display to 5 places. Is there somewhere else I need to set display or import preferences?
For some reason when I cut cross-sections it either doesn't work or when it cuts them it is only from beginning of project to Sta. 27+00, but my project goes to 85+00. I can not figure out why this is happening. I have done it on other projects with no problem. I even redrew the Alignment and reattached it to the Corridor and tried again and it is doing the same thing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Is there a way to bring surface data from google earth into opensite?
if so how would i do it?
Are there any videos to watch over this?
Hi all
I am having issues with my proposed cross sections not running the criteria files for my special ditches. In the criteria file I specify the ditch profile, foreslope, backslope, and widths but whenever the proposed cross sections are run, the special ditches are not created with the right slopes or elevation. Instead it creates ditches that are always exactly 2.1 feet below the subgrade. I have checked my define variables to make sure nothing is specified in there to run and there isn't anything. I attempted running the cross sections by putting one of the special ditches in the define variables part just to see if it is possible to run the ditch and the cross sections will create that ditch exactly how I want but for whatever reason the criteria files seem to just be ignored. Any help is appreciated.
Also, I have already checked to make sure the right criteria file is put into the correct shape clusters.
Hello, I am trying to use LumenRT simulation of traffic, however the vehicle content aparently is not available. The program presents a message when I try to select them "Online content is currently not available. Please download the offline content installer. Go to Bentley Download now?". Does anyone knows how can fix this? Thank you.
Good Morning,
While setting up profile annotation, I was attempting to annotate the existing surface elevation on a flag at the proposed PVC/PVT. Much like attempting to annotate superelevation in a plan curve annotation group, there doesn't seem to a way to do that, since the existing surface isn't really related to the proposed profile in that way. For the time being, I created an annotation definition that places an xxx.xx' placeholder in that spot (see below). A typical profile won't have a hundred vertical curves, so this isn't the most arduous workaround in the world, but it's one thing that would have to be checked if we make any profile changes and maybe put in a checklist or something.
For the record, the thread below gave me the "aha" about realizing that the Existing Strip Grade annotation should be pointed to from the Terrain Model Feature Symbology, and not the proposed profile.
If anyone sees anything that I'm not doing the most effective way, please feel free to let me know. Thanks!
We use ProjectWise at our agency and when an user tries to open a file, he cannot, because it says the Project Preferences (Project Defaults) are not set, but we cannot set them without being able to open Power InRoads.
It's a Catch 22.
We can't open Power InRoads because the Project Defaults are not set and we cannot set the Project Defaults because we cannot open Power InRoads. Any ideas?
I am running my proposed cross sections with special ditches in geopak. In my criteria files, I specify the foreslope and backslope of my special ditches, but whenever I run the cross sections, the line connecting the shoulder to the subgrade slope doesn't match the slopes I want for my special ditches. The only way I can get this right is if I change the values in the define variables tab by modifying the "left ditch slope" and "right ditch slope" but I have several special ditches with different slopes. Is there a way to fix this in the criteria file? I've tried using alternate side slope code in the criteria file with the special ditch but it still doesn't want to keep the special ditch slopes.
