ORD U7 - Linear Template Level of Detail

$

Hi,

I am using a linear template to place a footpath and was hoping that after assigning a point control my BOF geometry everything would be fine. It would appear that the level of detail of the template drop is not high enough because instead of following the arcs in the BOF geometry, it's creating straight lines. Currently the level of detail feature definition is set to final but is still not good enough. Pink is template BOF and turquoise is BOF geometry.

I've never had this problem before, does anyone know what's going on?

File attached.

Hello everyone,

I will design an alignment for an oil pipeline. And the project requires 3D stationing. I found the 3D alignment task but is there a way to annotate in 3D?

I am using InRoads V8i SS2.

Thanks in advance.

After attaching my POD file and running Ground Extraction I can view my Point Cloud Styles > Classification with no problems. If I close the dgn file with the Point Cloud and I reopen it the Point Cloud Styles > Classification are no longer displayed. How does the dgn store the classification information? Do I have to run Ground extraction every time I want to see the Classifications?

[ORD 2018R4] Most Efficient Way to Annotate Same Civil Feature Multiple Ways

$

Good Afternoon,

We've been fine tuning our desired Annotation Definitions and Groups for plan and profiles. We have determined that we will require alignments that are able to be stationed on top of a tick mark, being stationed both right to left and left to right. Additionally, we have different annotation requirements based on whether we are in our regular plan views, or a particular detail, such as structure, intersection or interchange. To satisfy that requirement, we could, theoretically, add all required annotation definitions into a single annotation group, creating a different level and element template for each required annotation group. We would prefer, obviously, to have a different annotation set to toggle depending on what view/plan/detail we were in.

Right now, we can accomplish this switching of annotation via changing the Feature Definition. Unfortunately, we can only have one Feature Definition per feature, and therefore only one Annotation Group. Ideally, we could accomplish this by either overriding the Feature Definition or Annotation Group, similar to the "Override Feature Symbology" property when looking at the Element Information for a Terrain Model. We would then annotate our baselines outside of the baseline container file. Without such a method, we have developed a somewhat laborious workaround.

1) Maintain baseline in its own file. We annotate this baseline and profile within this file using our default plan/profile annotation. Plan, using Element Annotation; Profile, using Model Annotation and the Named Boundary Civil Tools.

2) Create a new file for each desirable alternate annotation. We contain these alternate files within subfolders of our "Geometry" folder.

3) Create a new Feature Definition for each type of Annotation Group desired. Create the associated Feature Symbologies, Feature Definitions, Annotation Groups, and Annotation Definitions. Create associated new containers for each.

4) In each "alternative annotation" file, use the "Single Offset Entire Element" Horizontal Geometry tool to copy plan and profile into the "alternative annotation" file with 0 offset.. This also creates a Civil Rule with the new baseline married to the original baseline in time and space.

5) Set new Feature Definition corresponding to alternate Annotation Group.

6) Use the "Start Station" tool in the Modify Horizontal Geometry tool group to create equivalence. It would be useful if there was an option to copy the Start Station properties of the target baseline in the Horizontal Geometry offset tools. At this point, if we have to modify the baseline, we are able to update our "alternative annotation" files as soon as we open them. I would probably then create a Batch Process to open all of our files prior to plotting to update the properties.

The laborious part of this is that we have several dozen alignments to update every time we have a design modification, or if someone wants to see our annotation represented differently.

If anyone has any tips to streamline this workflow, please feel free to let me know! Thanks in advance as always.

OpenRoads Designer: How can I put 3D objects (placed as cells) on the right X Y Z location?

$

I am trying to put gauntries (portalen in Dutch) in the OpenRoads model. I have put .obj, .fbx and .ifc files in the model to try them out.

Some problems I come across:

1. How can I put the gauntries (or other objects, like traffic signs) in the right location? If I open front, right, top view and move something in those views, the other positions also change. I can't change the X Y or Z in the menu. How can it be this hard to put a 3D object on a road??

2. I exported some Revit family files into an IFC file and imported them in OpenRoads Designer. There is some text show and in some models also level information. How can I delete this? Or do you know any way to export a Revit family file (It's a Revit project with the Revit family file in it) without the text and levels?

3. I have imported some traffic signs in .dxf format. They are not shown properly. I also had some trouble to rotate these 90 degrees so they stand upright. The dxf files are designed in 2D for a 2D drawing, so they are perpendicular with the road. To rotate them 90 degrees around an axis shouldn't be this hard right?

Tips or a tutorial for importing and placing 3D objects would be great, I am missing this subject in all the course material and on the forum.

Below are some images to explain the problems. I hope it explains some stuff.

Dear sir/madam,

While I am designing Profile in MX roads element method I am getting errors at most of the cases, will you please any one guide me with the principles what we need to be consider while designing the profile, especially at structure locations, junctions, valley curves, summit curves and other typical conditions.

even the basic principles provided by you will brighten my skills, please consider my perusal and

Thanks in advance.

Geopak User Preferences

Hi All,

Every time I load Powergeopak in projectwise the roadway user preference defaults back to a station format of 1+234.

Is there a way to set the default to 12+34 so that it is always set that way?

Thanks,

Kevin

EOT line Profile By Template

$

How would I go about getting my EOT lines to have "profile by template"? My horizontal alignment is the only line with a profile. When I hover over any of my EOT lines they say "no active profile". I can set an active profile but want to have them automatically have profiles based on the template. Since the EOT does not have a profile from the template I cannot create arcs to connect my mainline to my other roads. When I create the arcs and use the "Quick Profile Transition" tool, my curve profile is at zero elevation.

I also am not seeing my superelevation accurately in my 3D model. I am tying in to existing roads and the intersections don't look right because the superelevation for the mainline is not changing from the template to match my superelevation.

Open Roads Designer - Deleting "Ghost" Conduits / Elements from Design File; Prevents Hydraulic Analysis

$

Hi. I’m hoping someone else has some experience with this in Open Roads Designer Connect Edition.

There are some “ghost” elements in a file that is preventing me from running hydraulic analysis.  If I run a "validate" or "compute" I end up It says that there is 2 conduits/elements with error message 440256 that I cannot select to delete.  The file did contain a handful of additional conduits and structures which were deleted, I believe this is data remaining from those.  The only location where I see these elements and know they exist are the flex tables and the user notification errors. They cannot be deleted from either location.

I have tried the following:

- Looked through the Explorer to try to find these. They are not available.

- Deleting all attributes in the flex table for these elements in an effort they are removed without info. Or the analysis would run.

- Synchronize Drawing. They following error appears when they prompt to pull missing info back into the drawing appears.

Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can select these two "ghost" elements so they can be deleted from the design file?

Any ideas help, Thanks!

Newer Civil Data Found Error, File opens with older geopak

Hello,

I am currently running Geopak Version 08.11.09.904 and my coworker is running 08.11.09.845. I was working on a corridor model and switched projects for a week or so then when I came back to open my model I get the Newer Civil Data Found error which I am aware can be caused by opening a file with OpenRoads but that has not been done. We do not have OpenRoads. Another catch is that my coworker can open the model and not get the error message at all. It runs properly and the model can be edited. We have tried doing a "Save As" of the file, purging most of the references from the drawing and even repairing and reinstalling .904 but still get the error. We are both puzzled by this and are looking for guidance. Thanks!

Brad

Create Cut/Fill Volumes takes ages

$

Hej,

I am working on a site project using ORD 2019 R1.

I have a designed surfacetop and  bottom with an area of 400 000 sqm, existing terrain created from Lidar data, and a rock surface created as per boreholes logs.

To calculate earthowork volumes, rock excavation and topsoil/unsuitable material removal, I am using Create Cut/Fill. The issue is that calculations takes hours even without including the substrata (rock surface) and when including rock surface, 12 hrs in not enough and I shut down the software and went home.

I was looking for a workaround, as I need these Cut/Fill/Rock meshes and end up with an idea of thining existing and designed surfaces to a grid of 5x5m. Then I have my work done within less than few minutes. As far as volumes are concerned I can accept the results, but displaying meshes on cross-sections is far from being accepted. The Cut/Fill meshes will not follow the original existing  and designed terrains but the these I thinned to the grid of 5x5m.

The same isue on linear infrastructure projects, whenever I have Lidar based existing terrain models, I can not realy calculate Volumes, not mentioning exibiting these on cross-sections. 10 hour to calculate volumes for a 10km long corridor?

The tool Create Cut/Fill Volumes works like a charm on training data or when dealing with a traditional survay measurements. But these days I almost always work with either ALS or MLS lidar based terrain models.

What is the best practice here? What is the best workflow to calculate and present volumes with ORD.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,

Best

Adam

OpenRoads subsurface utilities-Importing water model

Dear all,

I have a query regarding importing water network via model builder.

I exported the water model in excel format, then in model builder wizard -

1) while importing junction excel , which Feature Definition ( FD ) for junctions i have to select in order to form proper T and bent and reducers automatically??

For a trial ,i set FD for junction as water meter, and run the wizard all water meter formed as set.

2) Then same I tried with pipe excel file .with proper assigning start node and stop node , and run the wizard.

After running 2) , its start synchronize with watermeter or fire hydrant  ( Junction ) .....but result was not identical at all places.

At some places Tees bents formed properly, at some place nothing was formed, at some places it remained as water meter. Also suggest whether to run model builder wizard simultaneously for junction and pipe or seperately

please help me to solve this issue

Reverse Direction of ORD Civil Cross Section

Please can someone let me know if it is possible to reverse the direction of a Civil Cross Section created using OpenRoads Designer, such that the views look in the direction of decreasing chainage/station rather than the normal direction of increasing chainage/station.

I have seen a workflow for Inroads that involves transposing the alignment to reverse the chainage/station direction; however, I'm hoping that there is a simple setting in ORD that will do this automatically without the need for adjusting the alignment.

Text Favorites - Label Style Names untitled-4

I'm using OpenRoads version

2019, release 1 Update 7 - Version 10.07.00.56

I included the dgnlib

Text Favorites_Text Styles_Dimension Styles Imperial.dgnlib

That comes with the install.  When I look at the names with Project Explorer, all the text favorites from this file have a Labe Style Name using, untitled-1, untitled-2.  I've opened up the dgnlib and can't change the Label Style Name.  I can edit the display name.  Would be nice to see the Label Style Name be the same as the Display Name as a start.

Has anyone encountered this issue?
