InRoads SS4 - Modify Feature Line without Modifying Corridor Template

$

I've modeled a depressed tunnel along a complex alignment based on typical template with niches and openings cut out from the mesh model. But now my engineer requested for a portion of the tunnel to have a different wall height. I do not want to modify the corridor template with this new information and loose the openings and niches that I've painstakingly captured. I'm able to manually modify the tunnel model by manipulating the points with the element selection "disable handles" deactivated.

But the edge feature lines seemed to have rules and am unable to manually modify to follow the new top height of the wall. This feature line needs to be revised to capture the revised height as this line shows up in the tunnel profile drawing.

Can anybody suggest a way to do this.

Or is there really no other way than to modify the corridor template.

Software used: InRoads SS4 version ending 878

ORD Earthworks volumes

Hi,

I am looking for a method to calculate more complex cut/fill volumes with Openroads Designer update 2. This could be easily done with EAV methods, now it seems more cumbersome as EAV tools are not included in the software package anymore. I am aware that EAV is not 100% accurate method and this prismoidal approach may be eventually beneficial, however it needs a few enhancements.

With ORD it is quite easy to create  meshes of cut and fill for simple earth work scenario when you just need to calculate  volumes between bottom of proposed road and a top of existing terrain but this is not a real life scenario at all.

In real projects we need to include at least topsoil stripping or existing pavement demolition. Adding demolition or stripping components to corridor definition is not an option for complex project where more than a few template drops are defined (there is a youtube video showing how to create topsoil stripping component posted to CivilTSG channel) - my workaround is to edit existing terrain model - actually as they will do during the construction phase - I just remove topsoil, existing pavement, etc. Time consuming but doable and in fact gives understanding of construction process. That's for typical projects.

For more complex scenarios we need to include top soils stripping, demolitions, ground replacemnet (MDC removal and replacing). Unsuitable ground should be replaced with fill when needed, etc. That was easily achievable with Inroads 8.7 - V8i SS4 when using EAV methods. How to deal with this now? What is the suggested Bentley's best practice that would work for industry standards?

thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hi ,

when I open older file from ORCS in updated ORCS continues conversion to sm file but after that I see black screen,

So I found out that I have not more terrain and raster either and when I try to add an original terrain and raster, I see message about No Coordinate system,

in all Bentley application MS,inRoad, OpenRoad Designer etc. is CS : Czech/JTSK Krovak .... but not 5b.Krovak ???

coordinate system for Slovakia S-JTSK is missing on list, any idea how to repair it, now all my works made by ORCS are not possible to work

ORD - Still having Issues creating Field Books

I'm still experiencing some issues when creating Field Books in the "Survey" working environment.  I've created two videos showing my attempt from the starting point of creating a new workset and drawing all the way through creating my named boundaries, sheet sets and then, unsuccessfully my field book.  Towards the end of the second video you'll see that I attempted to create a field book in the 3D view and it appears to create it but it never shows up in Explorer.  It does appear though when I click on Delete Field Book.  Please take a look at the two videos and offer any insights you may have on what I'm doing wrong.  Thanks for your help.

I tried dragging and attaching the two videos here in the editor but apparently the file sizes are two large.  I'll go ahead and post this message and then try to upload the files separately using the directions included in the Secure File Upload Wiki.

Template Display Rules

I have a template that I set some display rules on to not show my rock undercut. When I test the rule everything works, but it doesn't seem to work on my corridor. Could someone lead me in the right direction as to why it would work in my template testing, but not my corridor? I have attached the template.

WHay do I get an extra vertex causing the profile to turn back on itself when using the best Fit profile tool?

I'm working in GEOPAK SS4 08.11.09.878. When I use the Profile Best Fit Tool, I regularly get a best fit profile that doubles back on itself. I seem to be able to fix it by deleting that extra VPI.

Is it possible to import a .CSV file with survey coordinates into OpenRoads Designer?

I've recently made a huge jump from my previous company to starting my own company. At my previous job we were running V8i(SS2) with the Inroads Module. I use to be able to use a Survey Product Add-on to import my survey files which were in .csv format. The format was as follows: Point Name, Northing, Easting, Elevation, Code, Attribute Name, Attribute value.

Now I am told Inroads is no longer being sold as a software and that OpenRoads is the replacement. So I'm wondering if its possible to import csv files in openroads, and what to do with my .xin file if this is still a thing. I will need for both Horizontal and Vertical Alignments, and to eventually come up with optimal horizontal curves, and vertical profiles.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

OpenRoads Designer Element Template window.

I am just new to OpenRoads coming from Geopak, and getting my head around the whole element template thing to define survey / design features for display.

The videos are good but i have not yet found how to open the window (shown on the openroads video) where an explorer window titled 'element template' is used to explore the various templates and hence the properties of each feature symbology code.

I will need to convert my faithful geopak smd file to this new style of feature definition, but i think i need access to the element template tree for editing?

Thanks.

Hello,

In order to have the horizontal alignment I want to import my geometry. My geometry file is a dwg or dxf file. I tried the import geometry but it didn't work. Could you please help me with it?

In openroads we load only alg files? we can't create an alg file?

And also for the terrain model ,the information I have available is contours. Can I create the dtm file from the contours using the openroads? how can I do it?

thank you in advance

Profile Feature Definition

When creating vertical geometry, is there a way to make the profile feature definition automatically match the horizontal feature definition?  When designing a junction layout, I will design the horizontal first, setting the feature definitions as appropriate for each feature, then design the vertical.  It's really annoying, and time wasting, having to keep changing the active feature definition when doing the vertical.

It would also be useful if the name seed for the vertical profile would automatically take the name of the horizontal feature.  Again, would save having to rename the element every time to match the horizontal feature.

Visualize low points printed on coordinate geometry profile

Hello!

I am aligning catch basins to low points along an FOC profile. I have printed the profile to coordinate geometry and can see the stations for the low points.

My question is: Is there a way to have coordinate geometry generate these low points as elements in the microstation file that I can interact with?

In previous designs, I had an element in the microstation file that lined up with the FOC profile that I could basically set up an array along to put an element at the station corresponding to the low points. In this one, those paths are broken up and the array function no longer works.

Thanks for any help in advance!

OpenRoads Designer CE - geopak autostore graphics equivalent - to export csv data for survey set out.

I am still looking for the part of OpenRoads Designer CE where i can create points from design data (dwg from client)  - similar to autostore graphics in PowerCivil Geopak - in order to output to a .csv (ascii) file to be uploaded to a survey controller for set out.

This is the one of the two essential parts required of a survey package, the other being data acquisition from field. (Ok there for the moment).

A video would be good to go with the others.

Thank you.

Is it possible to add folders to a Workspace or Workset in a configuration, other than to the Standards folder?

Our company has long been using a folder structure through multiple disiplines. I would like to continue this structure but CONNECT only seems to allow new folders to be created under the Standards folder. When creating a Workspace or Workset, is it possible to add folders, in a configuration, other than to the Standards folder?

Thanks

Powersurvey does not recognize my .xin file.  I recently added a new computer to my network and this machine does not recognize the .xin preference file. Shows its loaded.  It works on all my other devises.

Any ideas?

Can you insert vertices into a 3D complex element?

It would be nice to be able to insert vertices after I've created a 3D complex element for use with control points for my corridor model, instead of having to re-create the entire 3D element for just 1 or 2 additional vertices.  Is there a tool that I can do this with?

When I try bringing in a person on car into the visualization I get the following error "Unable to contact server. Please make sure your computer is connected to the internet"

I am connected to the internet so I don't know what is causing it. Is there a setting somewhere that I am not seeing? Thanks in advance to anyone that can answer this.
