Openroads Designer connect edition superelevation rules file

$

I have just looked at the superelevation tools within the Openroads Designer connect edition.

I see there are rules files for ASHTO but not DMRB.

Do any rules files exist for the DMRB ?

I would currently design  the channels on a superelevation section using the geometry tools and then use the point control tools to manipulate a template, but surely I should need to do this.

OpenRoads Designer - How do I create or display a series of cross sections in a single model, rather than in numerous separate models?

I would like to create a working model (i.e. something to assist me in developing the design, rather than a deliverable drawing) that displays a large number of cross sections through my terrain and design models. I have created named boundaries, but only appear to be able to then create a large number of separate models. I want all the sections in one place. Any help would be much appreciated.

Replacing Existing Ground Terrain Data in My Model File

I have a model file which has existing terrain data that is out of date. I want to replace it with newer .DEM terrain data in ConceptStation. Perhaps I am missing a simple command here but could someone explain how this is done? Thank you.

[OR] Offset line length definition behavior

$

Using Geopak SS4 .878.

Bear with me on my explanation here. I'll make it as clear as possible, and I apologize if this has been reported as I couldn't figure out how to search for it.

I have a line that was created from the Single Offset Partial tool. Rather than using stationing, I snapped a specific point to begin the line to the left of the baseline, and supplied a specific length. In short, the start station is higher than the end station.

After retooling some of my linework, I found that I need this line to be anchored by a different point, and I need the specified length to be pointing forward (so that the end has a higher station than the beginning) rather than backward.

What I find is that I can locate the end of this line anywhere I want, but if I enter any positive or negative length value, Geopak takes the absolute value as a positive value and reverts to running opposite the baseline direction and the start station is again higher than the end station.

Has this been previously observed and reported? To be honest I wasn't sure how to look this up.

Editing GDF file outside GEOPAK Drainage

I have a gdf file that crashes even before opening.

It all started when I somehow goofed up while building a drainage network, it froze and crashed.Later when I tried restarting uStation and reopening the GDF file, it tried building the topology for the network that I goofed up, and it crashed again.

Since I am unable to open the file at all, can the GDF be opened in an editor outside of Geopak so that I can manually delete all the components of the drainage network that's causing the issues? I used to be able to edit Inroads S&S files in MS Access. Is there a similar software that can handle the GDF?

I am attaching the GDF herewith, and the name of the drainage network that causes issues is "OUT442N" in this file.

thanks,

Vinod

[PowerCivil SS4 .878] Font problem only in PowerCivil

Hi.

We have many drawings that are opened with wrong font in PowerCivil regardless of workspace settings. The files look fine in Microstation.
I have attached a dgn and two jpgs showing how the file looks in PowerCivil and Microstation
All fonts in the attached file should be Arial or Arial Narrow, but on my side they are X-OPTA3S (last font in the list) and P8221191 in PC. Both of these are shx fonts.
When I key-in "delete unused fonts", then compress all, the file looks good in PowerCivil.

Does anyone have any ideas for solving this issue? It seems strange that I suddenly have to delete fonts to get the correct fonts.

Corridor modeling in SS4

I created a corridor with no problems. I want to "add corridor reference" to a tie into draped surface line on each side of the corridor. One side worked fine. The other side added the reference to the corridor but the graphics did not mesh over. Therefore the cross sections did not tie out on that side. I checked to make sure the tie in is within the terrain. I also check the template and tested that. Both tie in lines are defined with a feature definition.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

OpenRoads ConceptStation Ground Extraction Tool

I came across in the ConceptStation documentation discussion on the Ground Extraction tool.  As indicated in the discussion, this tool only "appears" if A) you do not create a terrain model for your DGNDB, and B) you attach a 3D mesh model (3mx) created from ContextCapture.  I have been trying to do something similar as this tool does, only through the use of ContextCapture Center edition, but I am having difficulty getting a fully licensed version from Bentley.  So when I read about this tool, I thought maybe this tool could solve some issues I'm having with my 3D mesh model (trees showing through a new roadway).  So I created a DGNDB file from scratch, skipped the importing of terrain step, and attached my 3D model in my file.  However, the Ground Extraction tool is nowhere to be found.  Any suggestions?

[IR SS2] Import XML - Boundary comes in at Zero Elevation

$

I am trying to Import a LandXML surface, and my boundary is coming in at an elevation of zero. This is really messing up my surface (as I'm sure you can imagine). I don't seem to be able to delete those feature points with the Delete Feature Points tool.

The boundary is the right shape, just not at the right elevations.
How can I import this XML and tell it to use the boundary as an XY, but not a Z? Alternately, after I've Imported my XML, how can I get stop the surface from triangulating to the boundary? Or any other option I don't know about?

Thank you

[OR SS4] Fillet curve transitions - offset method doesn't seem to be correct

$

I'm working on reverse-engineering some standard drawings so that I can repurpose them for nonstandard conditions. This leads me to making sure I have everything plotted correctly. This leads me to analyzing the attributes of the transitions and all that.

So, here I am, looking at a back deflection given on the standard drawing as 8d 32m 29.65s. The radius is 2890'. The length is 430.837'. The tangent is 215.818'.

When I draw up a curve to represent this, I set the back transition as follows: type: Curve; method: Deflection; radius: 2890'; deflection: 8°32'29.65".

I change the method to length. The length field displays 430.8369'. Great.

From my calculations (and confirming with an offset line), the lateral displacement of the PT should be offset 32.05483' from the back tangent.

When I change the method to offset, the offset field displays 16.4156'. What does this 16.4156' represent? If I manually set it to 32.05483' as it should be, I get a much wider curve, as you might expect.

Power Inroads SS4 - Template Library not Found

I have my template library attached and was using it yesterday with no issues.  Today, my template names are blue, the ITL is loaded but when I try to update the templates I get "Warning: Cannot Find Template in the Library."  It is there with the same name.

How do I fix?

Thanks,

GeoPak Alignment/Corridor issue

Warning: I'm fairly new to GEOPAK.  Here's my problem:  My corridor is no longer matched up with my alignment, and I'm trying to find a way to get the two sync back up.  How it became this way:  I edited a horizontal curve in my alignment file, and edited my profile.  I had exported the alignment to my .gpk file so I'm not sure whats going on.  Anybody have any ideas/help?

HI,

We have at hand an XML of the Superelevation Standards for Singapore, I am wondering if anyone can help to convert it to SEP/SRL format to be used in either SS2 or SS4 versions of InRoads.

Thanks!

[PIR SS2] Any way to merge a new surface into an old surface without creating a third surface?

$

I recently got some additional survey on one of my projects. I need to combine this information in with the data I already have.

It looks as if I can't just combine the new data into my existing DTM. The Merge Surfaces tool wants Original, Design and Destination surfaces. That would leave me with a new, merged surface that is not the same as my previous existing surface. I did it, but now my profiles and cross sections don't "recognize" that my new surface file (ExGroundCombined) is replacing the old one (ExGround). I mean, Once I change my active surface to the new, merged one anything cut with the old one becomes "dead" data. I can understand why that is and what is going on, but I'd prefer to find a way to keep some continuity.

Did I do this wrong, or is there some setting I overlooked? Or is it possible for my Original and Destination surfaces to be the same thing? Do I have to keep changing existing ground every time I get an update?
How do you deal with data combining and surface merging, and multiple surfaces?

Retaining Wall Activated by Trigger Lines

Hello, I am designing a template that involves a standard two directional curbed road-way (split between two templates (one for left and one for right)) with sidewalks (shown as a vertical line with no horizontal dimension) adjacent to the curbside, and several back slope end conditions tying into existing ground (see below):

With a parametric controlled switch display rule showing curb, or open shoulder.

Now, what I want to do is create a trigger line on the curbed section that will put a retaining wall when ever the back slope becomes greater than 4:1, and if the back slope is equal to or less than 4:1, show no retaining wall.

I have this so far:

but I'm not sure how to get it to do what I want it to. Any guidance would be very appreciated.

Thank you.
