RE: Use of SS4 Feature Definitions in ORD

$

Here are my findings...

1. In the file
"C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CONNECT 10.00.00\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Arcadis-NSW.cfg"
The line number 35 should read like this:

CIVIL_WORKSPACE_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY_NAME = W2B-Templates-B3.itl

…as this is to only set the name and no path is needed.

2. Your Feature Definitions Mesh settings do not include the pointer to their feature symbologies. You missed this column in your spreadsheet. This is why your templates are not showing correct.

3. The slow down of the template editor is because you are including a DGNLib of Subsurface Utilities that has not been converted. It is seeing features in this file and trying to resolve but it can’t.
"C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CONNECT 10.00.00\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Arcadis-NSW\Standards\Dgnlib\Feature Definitions\RMS Subsurface Utilities Feature Definitions.dgnlib"

If you rename that files extension to something like *.old, then the problem goes away. This DGNLib will need to be updated.

4. In the file "C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CONNECT 10.00.00\Configuration\WorkSpaces\Arcadis-NSW.cfg" line # 99 is wrong. It should read like this:

MS_DGNLIBLIST > $(_USTN_WORKSPACESTANDARDS)Dgnlib/Feature Definitions/*.dgnlib

5. When importing the symbologies and features, make sure to always start with a new dgnlib if you are going to do the bulk editing.

First, you will want to add a feature name override with the same name to each of the cut/fill points in your template that would be the toe. Then, you will want to create a surface from your corridor, and then display the feature within the corridor surface that displays the toe (Surface > View Surface > Features). With the View Features dialog open you can click Edit Style to edit the way the line appears. It will be under Symbology.

C# or C++ SDK for Geopak

Does there exist a .net assembly for Geopak, or any Geopak SDK that's not VBA?  It could be C++, C++/CLI, C#, or anything other than VBA.

Thank you,

We have a Cut and Fill linestyle. For any end conditions, you can assign a cut feature with cut linestyles to cut solutions and a fill feature with a fill linestyle to fill solutions. As long as there is more than one cut and/or fill solution, you will need to use the Feature Name override as Holly points out. So while you might have a cut1 through cut99, you can get one cut feature along each side of a corridor. There is no error checking on feature name override, so you need a different name for each side of the corridor, or you can get a zigzag feature running from both sides, back and forth at each template drop.

Hi Jervis,

this may be too late, but here's the method I'd be using for the task you have.
1) Attach the LiDAR data to an empty DGN file as PointClouds using the MicroStation PointCloud tools.
2) Open the DGN in GEOPAK (point clouds should still be visible).
3) Use the Terrain tools to build a "terrain" from the Point Clouds. You should set a MicroStation fence around the area of interest to limit the amount of data that is imported. Also, there are filtering options within the "create" tool to allow you to filter the point cloud information. Typically, I’d use the "TIN" filter option and set the filter value to whatever the expected accuracy of the point cloud. There is an option to test the filter which will tell you how many points will be extracted to the Terrain. If there's more than a couple of million, you might want to change the filter value OR make the fence smaller an develop a number of terrain objects.
4) Once you have the terrain objects created, they can be exported to GEOPAK TIN files for use with the other GEOPAK tools.

There are videos that show this process. The link that Nico provided will take you to those.
Unfortunately, when I tried to access the video's the links didn’t work - but that could be the IT rules here in the office causing that.
Give them a try.

HTHs,
Michael

I have several LAS files from Lidar data that was shot across several miles of a road. I'm being given the .las files and have to clip them and stitch them together (there are about 40 of them all together) to get the best data and create the best total surface of the project. My first method of bringing in the data was to import the .las with the Terrain Model and export it as a .tin. This worked, however just this one piece, which is one of the larger pieces, came out to be a 650 MB .tin. My goal was to convert all of the .las files to .tin and then clip and merge them together. Does anyone know of a way I can begin getting the .tin files to be smaller so I can work with them or is there a different way I should be going about bringing in and converting the .las files.

Thanks,

Jervis

RE: Terrain boundary editing.

The triangles look to be correct in that they are going to the drape void where it is inside the terrain - as it is a void, there is nothing that can be done outside the terrain. The boundary is showing the extent of the terrain, and there should be a void at the boundary. To me, this is correct.
If you wanted the boundary to go around the void, I think you would need to add a breakline outside of the void, which is making up data.

Terrain boundary editing.

Hi,

I have a terrain model created from a corridor which has several Drape Voids features added. My problem is that one of the feature intersects the terrain boundary but it does not change the shape of the boundary. Is it possible to edit the boundary to follow my void and how you would suggest to do that.

Solved. Startet from scratch with seed from ORD. Inserted line types and created a new cell.

Hi

I have a Signature list Cell with different linetypes where the line types scale 10. When I insert the cell into a drawing (seed based on 2d meter ORD orginal) the line scale changes to 100.

I am using OpenRoads Designer 10.00

I have designed an alignment for one of my project sites after importing site survey points in open roads. Now i am attaching an autocad file of features at the site.

The issue is that as i attached my cadfile its coordinate system changes. Its is not attached at same location as my designed alignment.

Missing Horizontal and vertical elements

Hello, I was trying to add toolbars for horizontal and vertical elements, but for some reason i am missing them. If I go to Geometry tab, I cannot see them as well. Does anybody know what the problem is? I have attached the screenshot as well

Thanks mark for suggestion but fortunately I could sort out the issue by doing the following steps

Closed the MX and went out of it
Went to MX option through Bentley programs and reset the configurations some 6 to 7 times and went back to MX and then I could find the MX output window.

Cheers and thanks for replying my query.

Hello, I want to use function Annotate Drawings or Pages. When I click on this function I don' t have nothing. This function doesn't work in my MXRoad. What I have to do to fix this problem??

By using Status Monitor option also i tried but still problem not resolved.

As a second option reseted my configuration also using following path. All programs > Bentley > MXRoad > MX options > Reset Configuration.

Kindly suggest me the solution for this problem.

Thanks in advance

RE: get median to follow special ditch grade

If you build the two slopes using a fixed value and a fixed width flat bottom, the distance between the two roads and difference in elevation will 100% control the depth and location (x,y) of the ditch. To control a ditch depth, you need some type of variable width or slope segment on one side or the other (or possibly, both).
What you can do, is after running the corridor with this fixed ditch, is to project one of the flat bottom 3D features to one of the road profiles. This will show you what the ditch does based upon those constraints, compared to your desired profile. Then you can use that information to develop components with controls that allow you to vary the ditch depth.
You might want to make a null point that the ditch bottom elevation is tied to and add the two variable segments mentioned above and by using the move point tool, move the null point around to see how it modifies the ditch. You will usually learn where you must free any additional constraints yo get the desired results.

get median to follow special ditch grade

I have a divided roadway with a median ditch. The median flow line is controlled with a profile. The basic ditch would be a 6:1 down to flow line on each side to the flow line and then a flat bottom connecting the 2 edges. For the ditches I created a component that targets an feature definition vertical. I then created a linear element with the flow line associated with that ditch the active profile. That worked well for the ditches but unable to recreate this for the median...maybe because it has 2 controlled edges. Does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks for your help. brian
