[OR Ss4] Best Practices - Building a Terrain for Site Designs Built from Many Different Open Roads Elements

I am working on a complex site, with two separate parking areas that are looping roads with 90 degree parking bays at various points along their lengths. This is also adjacent to a road corridor and some side street corridors. Finally, the site is hilly, so there are multiple walls along the design.

I have used top mesh added to a terrain and also 3D breaklines. I have found that occasionally, the surface seems to forget that a source element is part of a corridor and they must be manually removed and re-added before the terrain will update.

I've also found that when building a composite surface from multiple corridors, linear templates, etc., that top mesh sometimes proves problematic if any manual cleanup is needed. Using 3D breaklines seems to result in a much less messy cleanup, except when they seem to loose their connection.

So is there an official best practice for this workflow? The Complex terrain object seems to be overkill for this type of workflow, but I could be wrong.
