First off, the process of developing permanent cross sections requires settings to comply with my client's wishes (scaling, etc.), plus we need specific cross sections at critical points and drainage structures, etc.
One of the first things I tried to resolve this was just doing it with default scaling and no critical points, and I turned off display of the DTM attachment in the 3d model. Cross sections were created just fine.
Then with all other defaults as just mentioned, I included display of the DTM attachment. The infinite loop (so I assume, since it doesn't trigger an exception or anything) occurs starting at 16%. (Probably differs from 28% on account of the cross section spacing.)
Next, with no DTM but with the established drainage and critical cross sections, it freezes again at 28%.
Having turned off all references in the 3d model, it runs perfectly well on even the special cross sections.
Adding the DTM and a couple other references in the 3d model, it runs well again.
I found that the problem is in one of the files I have my intersection corridors in. (For clarity, this is the file that has edge-of-pavement fillets and the linear templates that follow them. I have two such files, one for each intersection, each intersection having four corners. One of these intersection corridor files works fine on this corridor's cross section cuts, the other doesn't.) I find it strange, since this intersection corridor file causing the problem has been attached as I was doing cross sections from all the other alignments, and all of them ran perfectly fine.
