Are you certain that the target profile is continuous?

I ask this because there have been times I've seen a profile and the visual representation *looked* continuous, but what really happened is that it jumped forward and backward because there were skips in the constituent member elements. To confirm that it is continuous, look at the actual profile report and take note of the stations throughout.

It is also worth looking at the dynamic cross section, where you should be able to see the target element at that element's profile elevation. See if anything strange happens at the break. If nothing strange happens to the 3d position of that element, it is possible that target aliasing is causing you pain.

Also look at the point control list you have. Over any given station interval, if you have more than one point control that affects a given point, you'll have to be careful as to which has precedence and whether that is appropriate.

Nothing else comes to mind at the moment that might solve your problem.
