[OR SS4] Not sure how to look for this: Sometimes as I am in a profile view, its plan line is highlighted and points in the direction of increasing station. Sometimes not. Is there a reliable fix?

Also, in dynamic cross sections, a line represents this section in plan. Another symptom that I assume is related is that as I'm drawing a profile line, in plan a line appears to show me where along that line I'm about to click.

If I had to guess, this is related to the model space in the ObjectSpace Browser, but I see only a few entries in red, and only entries under Active3dByPlanProfileRule, and ProfileEntity itself (which has no children). The previous remark was later found to be irrelevant. That said, I don't know the fix.

I have seen the negative behavior be corrected after a user mashes a few buttons and clicks, but I don't know what those actions represent, and unfortunately that user doesn't recall what those steps were.

And I believe sometimes it corrects itself after I close the file and reopen it, but sometimes it doesn't, so there might be a specific step in processing the file that leads to the breakage or correction.

Any thoughts?

I'm using Power Geopak .878.

I just realized that I've posted about this before, 3 years ago. https://communities.bentley.com/products/road___site_design/f/geopak-inroads-mx-openroads-forum/120216/openroads-profile-and-cross-section-views-shown-in-plan. In that thread I suggested that I might want to log off Windows and try again. After logging off and returning to the same file, the arrows on the plan line do show up as desired. So I checked the ObjectSpace Browser and it has the same elements listed in red, so I guess that has nothing to do with it.

I have a defined Inlet Catalog and conduits catalog  which I use with StormCAD.   Can I import these to Inroads Storm and Sanitary? Can I import StormCAD catalog into Inroads as a Structure.dat file?

When I export StormCad to Inroads S&S  .sdb, it losses its references to the inlets and conduits.

OpenRoads Terrain Building and Section Viewing

Hello all,

I am running into a bit of problems/frustration here. Maybe it stems from the fact that I am a new user, but anyways. Excuse me being super detailed, I am sure most users will understand a less detailed account but it helps me to be VERY literal

I am using OpenRoads for dredge modeling. Here is what I have done so far and I will try to explain my problem.

1. I have a bathymetry (terrain A) which I have imported as an .xyz easy peasy.

2. I then created a complex horizontal geometry to represent a navigation channel and used the "Geometry > Vertical > Element Profiles > Profile by Constant Elevation" tool to create a flat dredging surface at my desired elevation (below my bathymetry).

3. After this I created a "dredging" terrain "Terrain > Create >From Elements" (Terrain B which is below Terrain A and from which I must project up to bathymetry to create my Dredge Prism)

4.  I then used "Model Detailing > 3D Tools > 3D Elements > Create 3D by Slope to Target" to create my side slopes.

5. I have also imported a channel alignment and built a profile out of it.

Up to this point everything seems to be going alright for me but here is where I am running into all sorts of problems. What I would like to do is the following:

1. Merge the sideslopes and my dredged flat surface into a single terrain that I can then compare with the bathymetry above it and obtain volumes from.

2. I would like to generate sections along the alignment illustrating the dredged channel bottom/side slopes/bathymetry. I tried the dynamic sections tools but nothing is showing up. I am guessing it may only work if I had dropped a template along my alignment. I cannot do this because I have an irregular channel with a turning basin at the end of it.

I hope I haven't bored you with the long post but I really do need help here. Any suggestions that come my way will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thank you,

Daniel

How to have both MicroStation an OpenRoads installed in the same machine

Hello,

I´m have installed on my machine OpenRoads ConnectEdition. But I need MicroStation too. So my question is: do I need to download a full install of MicroStation and run it, or there´s a way to use the MicroStation's core that OpenRoads uses? (I'm used to be an Autodesk user, and for Civil 3D you can start it as a normal AutoCAD instance, by clicking separate icon created by Autodesk's install process.) As OpenRoads is built in MicroStation core, Civil3D is built in AutoCAD's core, so can I do this? unfortunately, after install OpenRoads, I can't find an MicroStation icon...

ps.: sorry for my bad english

[OR Ss4] Create Cross Section Preferences - General tab - Scale Issues

$

We are trying to setup Standard Preferences for our users. The Create Cross Section Preferences are coming from a migrated XIN, so there are some minor changes to the XIN that have no default values in our migrated preferences. In particular, on the General tab, the Scale value, based upon our workspace, defaults to 1:12.

We have a modified units.def, sheetsizes.def and scales.def. Our 1" = 50' is the equivalent of a ratio scale of 50:1 and not 600:1 as it should be. (This was setup long ago before I got here, and I'm not sure we can change it without screwing up thousands of existing files. It appears that this is reconciled within our sheetsize.def file where the sizes are in inches, but the file defines them as feet.)

So what does this have to do with Cross Section Preferences? Well. the Default that loads when our saved preference has no model scale, 1:12 corresponds with our 1:1 (under the Direct scale names section of our units.def file).

But while that seems a little odd, If I try to set the Scale value to our standard cross section scale of 1" = 10' and save that as a preference, when reloaded, the Scale will change to 1:125. which is 10.41666666666667:1 under the Direct scale names. 10.41666666666667 X 12 = 125.

I than added a 1:120; 10:1 and a 1:600; 50:1 to the Direct scale names section and ran a few more tests.

When I save the scale of 1:120 or 1" - 10' in a preference, when reloaded, it still defaults the display to 1:125

When I save the scale of 1:600 or 1" = 50' in a preference, when reloaded, it displays a scale of 1:600.

In the XIN, the one that displays 1:125 is actually saving ModelScale="10.000000" and the one that displays 1:600 is saving ModelScale="50.000000"

So the issue seems to be the value the dialog box displays and not the value it actually uses. However, this is disconcerting. We are not too keen on instructing users to ignore a dialog box setting. On the other hand, it appears that if one has to change the model scale after the fact, their seems to be no adverse effects.

ORD - Remove feature definition from line

communities.bentley.com/.../aa.dgn

Is there a way to remove feature definition from lines or arcs?  I have added feature definition to normal Microstation lines to used them in corridor but now I would like to remove the feature definition from them.  Or at least drop them but every time I drop them they disapear from the drawing.  Is this a normal behavior?

Also is there a way to just drop civil offset line to normal microstation line without feature definition?

i'm not sure who to start setup of what I have created already.  I watched a few videos and read through forums.  but not finding anything similar to what I have.

Any help would be great, Thanks.

Here is what my cross sections look like currently.  I have about 300+ that spread across my model view.

[ORD] Geometry Replace/Substitute Tools?

$

Hi,

Does anyone know when we will get formalised releases of tools to swap relationships of elements from one Geometry element to another, like the undocumented GEOMETRY ELEMENT REPLACE key In.

This seems to work well, but a tool like the GEOMETRY SUBSTITUTE command that essentially swaps all relationships, profiles, properties, etc (element ID) is what we urgently need to maintain productivity when geometry gets corrupted (that unfortunately happens more often than we would like) and we have many files using this data as a reference. So far the tool seems too buggy to use on live projects (crashes often).

By far the missing link in effective use of relationships for real projects..

Regards,

Mark

ORD Warning about BSplines

$

Does anyone know what is the significance of this warning generated from the Linear Template command. Obviously, the command prefers spirals to splines but:

  •  Why does such a preference rise to the level of requiring a warning box to pop up?
  • Are there accuracy issues in play? If so, in what way? For certain complex geometry, bsplines would seem to always be more accurate than force fitting a spiral. Example: it is mathematically impossible to generate an offset spiral. All solutions which offset a spiral which results in a spiral are always approximations.
  • Are there performance or stability issues in play? Are spiral faster than splines?

One would assume that by choosing to interrupt my work with such an ominous warning that there is something legitimate and real in play under the hood.  If this is the case then shouldn't the warning be generated at the time I create the geometry instead of days or works later when I am applying a linear template? After all, the warning explicitly states "Consider recreate...".  Recreating things takes time and negates work already done. And what if the geometry was generated by another designer.

ORD Update 4 - Problem With Multiple Profile Annotations In Drawing Model

$

My issue has happened on several different projects.  I will create a plan and profile sheet with the Named Boundary tool.  When I annotate the drawing model for the profile, I will get from 2 to 18 multiple annotation labels stacked on top of each other.  These annotations will also not delete when I try to remove the model annotations.  I have to manually select them with the Element Selection tool in order to delete them.  When I re-annotate, I get the same problem.

I have also had issues with the plan stationing annotations.  Initially, everything looks good.  I will go to another .dgn file and then come back to the plan drawing model and the stationing is in correct.  I have to remove annotation and then re-annotate if fix it.

Tying Mainline and Sideroad Shoulders

What would be the best way to make this sideroad shoulder tie to the mainline shoulder pictured below? The sideroad is to the left and the mainline is to the right.

I am in the sideroad corridor file and the mainline file is referenced in. I treid using a horizontal feature constraint but the limit point from the sideroad template was not seeking the mainline ditch area.

Thank you for your help
