Geopak ss4 xin in Projectwise?

$

I'm currently successfully using the "CIVIL_XIN_FILE" config to point to my xin file on a server.   But, whenever I use this config to point to the xin file on Projectwise, the xin preferences are blank.

Does Geopak ss4 allow us to point to an xin file that resides in Projectwise Explorer?

RE: Hand-editing Cross Sections and pushing changes back to Design?

In SS2 and SS4 you can edit a single station template. Doing so you are working on a single station and in the template view and design is updated accordingly.
Another way is to edit features in SS2, but unfortunately you can override the changes if you run the corridor in the same zone.
In SS4 you can control points using linear geometry and change the linear geometry, but it is not like changing the template: you don't work on a cross section view (you can also do this in SS2 with feature). In SS2 changing the feature also change the component.
In SS4 it is much more easier also to mix design using corridor and other methods (linear geometry, surface templates, linear templates), you may find an appropriate workflow.
But as said at the beginning, you can edit a single station. In SS2 by a double click on the cross section view of the Roadway Designer, in SS4 by using the "edit station" from the cross section tools in the corridor modelling task.

Hi Robert,

Would you attach a dgn, sdb, and xin for me to look at? I'll let you know if I see anything.

I am using InRoads Storm/Sanitary and I can create and build a database but it will not display in the CAD file.  What settings or other support file might be corrupt?  The software worked fine about 6 months ago, the last time I used the software.
"I want Civil Accudraw to be enhanced to have an option for providing continuous tracking feedback on the cursor position even when I am using a tool which does not require point input."
This is redundant. Civil Accudraw already does provide continuous tracking feedback on the cursor position even when I am using a tool which does not require point input. Assuming, of course, I am not on a tentative snap.
It is very important when posting these questions to drill down to the heart of the need or problem.  (I know, sometimes this is difficult to figure out). For this specifically described issue your real need was: "I need an area report which also includes station and offset of some of the points"  This is doable.  See number 1.
Indeed, I have. It's in the programming.

When I am on a tool such as selection, I can set the origin for CA just fine. When I am on a tool such as measure area, everything I see suggests that I can set the origin for CA, but when I do so, all stationing and offsets are either entirely fictitious or are derived from an element other than my intended baseline.
Upgrade to latest versions:  All the reporting tools that you need for reporting areas are there.  Parcel report will provide the area as well as station and offset of points.
I have been using SS4 .878 for quite some time. Parcel Report may solve one situation in which the CR would solve, but here's another:

I want to be able to edit a text box once while being able to switch between alignments. For example, I want the station and offset from one baseline and the station and offset from another at the same exact point. I want to enter the text in one single text box just once. I could have done this with Geopak's good old Active Chain Control.

There is no reason whatsoever that OpenRoads should require a certain tool or certain set of tools to be active prior to being able to set the origin baseline. None.

[OpenRoads SS3] Civil AccuDraw set origin

Using Geopak SS3 .722, I'm finding that when I have certain tools activated and I try to change Civil AccuDraw origin, Civil AccuDraw behaves strangely. I'll give a couple specific examples:

 1. If I have Measure Area (other than using Flood or Points methods) or Measure Angle Between Lines or Measure Length or selected, and I go to set my AccuDraw origin, I can select only areas. If I try to select a linear element, it winds up with some nonsense stationing that seems to have no meaning whatsoever. (I'm using Station-Offset.)
 2. If I have Measure Radius selected as I click to set CA origin, I can select only curved elements. If that curved element is a member of a larger, complex element, it still uses only that one segment.
 3. If I have Measure Volume selected as I click to set CA origin, I can only imagine what elements it will accept or what that will look like if it does.

I realize that this behavior may not affect most users because they're not going to be as ridiculous as I am at investigating how things work, and since I know these things now I will easily be able to work around it. (That doesn't mitigate the annoyance.)

It's clear that Civil AccuDraw's origin setting tool is somehow dependent on what the active tool can accept, and my hunch is that this is not working as designed, and indeed is irregular and (in my opinion) should be fixed.

The workflow I was doing when I discovered this strange behavior is that I was measuring areas and needed to know the station at the beginning and end of the area.

(EDIT: I mention this step of the workflow only for context: that is the task I was working on, not to suggest that I expected to find the areas using Civil AccuDraw. Other edits are to clarify that for each case I mention above, I had that tool selected as I was attempting to set the Civil AccuDraw origin.)

RE: [OR] Naming Civil Objects - A Hit or Miss Proposition

It sounds like you're talking about times that you've typed in your own custom name (with or without prefix) and the created element winds up with an entirely different name. I'm not sure that I see this behavior, precisely.

I don't keep a log on all these things, but from memory it seems that I often when I select a certain feature definition which has its prefix set up, it is often ignored when creating new elements, but that might be different.

Is it just me, or does is seem like for every 10 elements that you assign a name for Feature Definition to, 9 end up with the wrong name - either one used weeks ago, or some other incorrect name. Creating Surfaces, Horizontal Geometry, Assigning a Feature definition to an unnamed element - I try typing in a name in the tool settings and then, during the actual process as I accept each step, the names revert back to some previously used name and not the name I just typed in.

Mark, thanks! inorder to get the right working unit, the referenced terrain file is enlarged to 1000 times the size of original. I have checked, this is the point!

but for "Analyze Volume" tool, it is better to use working unit of the master file rather than the working unit of the referenced file when calculation occuring.

RE: OpenRoads Designer not detecting Workset .itl

Hi Kevin
Mine is stuck on our Organization folder, not Workset.
Variable in Organization .cfg file
CIVIL_ROADWAY_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY = $(CIVIL_ORGANIZATION_STANDARDS)Template Library/SM_Templates_Metric.itl

If I disable this variable, then ORD wants to looks after \DefaultTemplates.itl on C:
------------------------
"CIVIL_WORKSET_TEMPLATE_LIBRARY_NAME" is set to Workset and our company .itl (SM_2017_Templates_Metric.itl)

--------
Example
We have our Workspace and Organization folder on drive L:\Sloth\cad\Bentley\OpenRoads Designer CONNECT\Configuration\

What we want is to have ORD look after Template Library files in our project folders.
Like in this case itl is located here
L:\Sloth\2017\170149\C07_Geometri\K10_Procesanlæg og forsyning\F8_STD_Symbolfil\Template Library

If we dont separate the itl files betweens project we will run into problems when several are using the same itl at the same time.

ORD Plan and Profile

I am trying to reproduce a set of plans for a project that we completed using inroads. I have a few questions:

1. North arrow in PP - previously you could insert a North arrow cell through the plan and profile generator dialog. how would you go about doing this in ORD? through the sheet definitions dgnlib?

2.Horizontal info - previously we used a preference to write out the correlating horizontal alignment data ( TL, BC, EC, R, CL etc) to show in the data table below the profile, what is the best way to do this now? linear annotation group for profiles?

3.Grid annotation - the grid annotation provides the first entry i.e 0+100 but does not show the 0+000 entry on the outside of the, how can i fix this?

4.Strip grades (linear annotation in general) - although I have set up my feature definition for the existing and profile strip grades to populate at every 20m at an offset that places them within the rows below, they still only plot out every 50m and do not obey the offset. guidance on this please?

5.Updating of annotation groups - I find that the design dgn does not update its annotation groups to match the updated library, how can i force this update?

If I keep the standard Workset folder in default location and move our company .itl to the standard "Template Library" location, only then can ORD locate and detect our itl.
I think we can live with that. But it would be nice if we could get ORD to look after "Template Library" in another location.

Civil Cells Dependency Failure

$

Hi all

Im currently preparing a civil cell of a hardstand in which my elevation is mainly dependent on a vertical offset from a 3D point. I have allowed for other control variables such as grades, and dimension adjustments. The civil cell functions to how I imagine it should with all dependencies reading. As a final touch I wish for one of my controls to be a vertical offset from the 3D point, in which I have used the "profile by slope from point" tool. The issue being in doing so, and trying to store the cell, several dependencies are seemingly lost. Although shown in the preview pane the cell does not construct the indicated elements. Is this perhaps a defect in software or is there something im missing?

Attached is the files I am currently working with my 3D included as a reference file.

The point is in a 3D space referenced into the 2D civil cell model only. The references for the cell are the 3D point and a vertical non-ruled white line from it that serves as a rotator.

For ease of visuals, attached is a screenshot in which the profile of the line, mentioned above, is opened.

Thanks Mark, you are correct....

It is a powerful and useful tool but users should use caution when using this utility. Users must be aware of the impacts involved when using this. This was meant to be a utility to perform a "fix" as a final change to the surface model before submission.

There are other tools that SS2 has to perform making changes without editing the template drop in the designer. I use End Condition Exceptions, H&V Controls and Parametric Constraints or Display Rules. I use these tools regularly and with a little education of these tools I have found them to be user friendly and very powerful.

Regards,
