I have a complex element that I want to drop complex on, because I'm about to form a new complex element that includes these elements, but I don't want a complex element that includes another complex element which finally comprises simpler elements. So I drop complex. The unfortunate thing is, now an element that is derived from that complex element is broken. So I undo that operation and then see if I can change the reference to one of the simple elements. I find that it is impossible to select a simple element within a complex element.
I guess the workaround is to set an entirely different element to replace it, then drop complex, then switch it back.
