I have been using MX since 1981 (in those days it was called MOSS).
I started off on Apollo Unix computers (line mode only).
MX (line mode) under Windows is an absolute pleasure.
I have written numerous programs to transform data, automate line mode input etc. to increase productivity.
Even though I have MX Road available, I still use the line mode for these reasons:
- Total control over the design.
Well-commented input files give clarity on what I am doing, not only for myself, but for those who review my designs.
Coming back to a design after a few months is difficult if you don't have either notes or comments.
Line mode with embedded comments make this easy to manage. - Repeatability / pro-formas.
Once a design sequence is refined, it can easily be used on other parts of the design, or new designs. - Line mode makes quality control easy.
- Milestone dates / designs are simply saved under a date, for easy future reference.
The examples and tutorials in MX / MOSS are very good and should get you started on very complex designs.
