I have used Corridor elements to create terrain elements and as the corridor updated, so did the contours.
I have used 3D features and top mesh on different occasions. What I am not sure about is how turning off and on these displays might affect the terrain element built from these.
One issue with top mesh verses using features, is that if the model cannot be 100% built via Open Roads but needs some minor tweaking of the terrain, exporting to a native DTM and using the Surface Edit tools of inRoads pretty much requires features and not top mesh. Editing a DTM from a top mesh is not an easy task - too many breaklines and vertices.
