I like the thought of improving performance and processing time, but I'd never given it much thought, really.
Another idea could be to process the corridor with incrementally better resolution. For example, process one cross section for every 10 of your usual cross sections, then when that is completed, process one for every 3-5 of your usual cross sections not already processed, then process all the rest. And we should be able to cancel the processing at any time, in case we have many edits to make but keep forgetting to lock processing, or don't want to bother locking it because I have only a couple edits.
