Missing End Area Totals

When cutting sections in SS4, there are stations where the proposed surface is not being drawn nor tabulated in the end area reports.  I am cutting sections at 25' intervals and I am getting 0 value on almost every 50' interval.  Does anyone have an idea why this may be happening?
