Welcome to the Black box that Open Roads DGNLIB's are. You are not the first to ask this question.
Here is what I know:
- Even if you start out with a linked XIN, certain settings must also be made in the DGNLIB for those linked features.
- If you wish to re-organize the features in the dgnlib, you will (must?) break the xin link and from that point forward, you are limited to working only in product, in dgnlib files.
- Some of the settings will be stored in Element Templates, which can be exported and imported as XML, but the format does not lend itself to viewing and/or reporting in Excel.
- When an end user works in Open Roads, most (all?) of the settings, element template, features, etc. get local copies in the active file. Once in the actual file, the user can then modify them.
As a DOT guy, please keep pushing for more capabilities like you are seeking in this post. From my days at the DOT, I know that a DOT request caries more weight than a guy whose company has maybe a dozen seats of Bentley Civil Products.
