Item 2: Check your locks. If set to Pencil Mode, a re-display of the same data, even if a fence was used to display different areas, will always erase anything drawn in Pencil Mode. If Set to Pen Mode, the re-display of the same data will not erase old data - unless Delete ink lock is on. When it is on, the Pan graphics erase just like Pencil Graphics.
I almost never use Pencil anymore. Leave Pen Mode On and turn on and off Delete Ink Lock if I want to erase old graphics.
Profile and Cross Section Windows do not honor these.
